A neighbors son attends UD and she called me this morning about riotous behavior at Udel last night, she showed me the videos and I was shocked.

National Guard was called in, car set on fire around 1 am.

First there was “Girls Gone Wild” now there is “I’m Shmacked,” a website where college students post videos of their drunken escapades. Its the new fad on college campuses.
Videos from multiple schools are posted on Youtube. It looks like the schools are in competition to “outdo” one another. Anyone in favor of “Prohibition” again? I hope any parent who identifies their S/D in any of the “Im Shmacked” UD videos takes appropriate action. Also I hope UD also takes some definitive action to address this outrageous behavior. Very, very sad to have to witness.

I did some digging, this company CHARGS $20 per fool to participate, and $75 for VIP tickets. Go onto instagram and see what type of behavior, and it isnt just drinking and drugs they are snapping pics and videos of.

Will be interesting to see what administration decides to do about it,

apparently this group is planning to do same tonight and tomorrow.

“Newark police say three people have been arrested in connection with Monday nights rioting incident.
Cpl. James Spadola said a rowdy crowd of more than 1,000 people gathered in the 400 block of S. College Ave. at about 11:30 p.m. A DJ was set up in the backyard of the home, and multiple people were urinating in public and trespassing through other yards. The residents of the home - Anthony Iadisernia and Evan Touzzoli, both University of Delaware students - were arrested for hosting a disorderly premise.
The mob then began blocking traffic and walking on hoods of cars, Spadola said. The officers observed a cameraman who was causing the crowd to swell and act even more disorderly. The cameraman - Marcus Hyde - was taken into custody without incident.
Spadola said the incident than swelled to several thousand people. About 75 officers from UD, New Castle County and Delaware State Police assisted.
Spadola said police did not receive any reports of a car fire as pictured in social media. Property damage consisted of several damaged cars, knocked down trash cans and damaged signs.
No officers or members of the crowd were injured, Spadola said, and the invesitgating is continuing.
More charged may follow, he said, and UDs Office of Student Conduct is holding an emergency hearing for the students arrested in the incident.
Extra officers will be on duty tonight, Spadola said.
Students on Monday night and today took to social media to talk about the incident, which theyre calling a schmacking event. Dozens of tweets using #schmacked declare the event a success, and an Instagram account called Imschmacked got more than 3,000 likes from a photo collage it posted of the Newark incident.
The schmacking phenomenon started last year after the YouTube username YofrayFilms posted a video of Temple University students partying. Since then, the group has recorded dozens of videos on campus including Penn State, West Chester University, Miami Unviersity and others accross the country. The clips often feature vulgar language, drinking and drugs.”

According to various Twitter reports all plans to continue with Part 2 tonight have been cancelled and those involved in starting last night’s activities are urging everyone to not go out. see twitter user: udel_Imshmacked .

My daughter who just finished at UD this summer woke me up at 2 am to tell me about what was going on. She was worried about the safety of her friends still attending and I have to say it made me very sad. So glad my son decided not to attend UD this fall.

As the mom of a brand new UD Freshman, I am very upset about this incident, and about this school in general. First, it seems almost every week there is a UD crime alert about a robbery, gun fired ON CAMPUS, and now this. Secondly, I am disappointed in what I’ve seen so far. The departments are not great about answering e-mails, and when they do answer at all, it’s a good 7 days. They advertise music lessons for 1st year honors students and then make it practically impossible to fit it into their schedules. They communicated all freshman would get the opportunity to hear Sonia Sotomayor speak, and then tell the students they had a limited number of tickets for them (the honors program had 50 tickets), and oh, sorry, they ran out.

This school was originally not on his list, but he visited just to see a larger school and in the end, he decided on UD. It hasn’t even been a month, but I’m already regretting I did not override his decision.

The University of Delaware is a great school and offers many wonderful opportunities to its students. This incident does not define the school or all of its students. Unfortunately bad things happen sometimes but the good things UD has to offer far exceed the bad!!

Weaver, my D is a senior and this is the first incident in her time at UD. I am very angry, but once in four years is not a bad ratio, it just stinks that it came so early for your son. I am very surprised that you have had trouble receiving answers because we have never, ever had that problem with any department at UD. Is your son in a major that is particularly large?

President Harker and Provost Grasso sent an email to all students today advising them in a fairly stern manner (IMHO) that such behavior would not be tolerated at UD and warning them that students who engage in behaviors outside the Code of Conduct established for UD students risk sanctions, including the possibility of expulsion. It does appear that UD is taking this incident very seriously, which is at least good to see. I would not want to be the two students (possibly now ex-students) who were arrested for allegedly instigating the fiasco.

The videographer was a third person “taken away” by police (and I assume he was arrested). At least by the reports I have seen (see my earlier post on this thread) there were two UD students arrested. Perhaps this has changed. If so I apologize.

Mwallenmud, now you have me questioning my statement. Perhaps I was wrong. Never meant to question your authority. Was trying to help. Either way, it was a crazy unfortunate night, filled with young foolish decisions. Glad my child was in bed following on facebook and twitter…

I have 2 daughters at UD; a senior and a freshman. I was very upset by the incident that occurred Monday night. Firstly, President Harker can sound as stern as he wants in an email to students. What is much more significant is the action he takes. There are certainly more than 2 students that should be expelled for their activities. There is a multitude of sufficient video incriminating students who can be easily identified. Have some campus staff watch the videos and identify the students. Secondly, for those that are paying attention there have been criminal incidents in and around campus last semester. There were armed robberies (mobile phone store and book sell back in a restaurant parking lot) and a football player was stabbed. Sadly, I don’t know if this is atypical. I myself went to a college located on the outskirts of Philadelphia. I think the important thing we can do as parents is put pressure on the administration to respond appropriately.

And a note to the parent who found the university unresponsive: my freshman daughter has also experienced the same unresponsiveness. I think the best thing is to get your child to go to people directly and keep at it until you receive a response. It is what my older daughter does.

I will say my older daughter was able to do some interesting research and secure a great internship which has led to a job offer upon graduation, but of course she was not one of the students on Main Street Monday night.

The party was at the Rugby house, not a short walk to Main good distance down. My neighbors son used to live right next door to this particular house. Well known for this type of behavior, even without I’M Shmacked involvement. He said homecoming weekend there would be 20-30 KEGS in the yard, with DJ and 1,000 kids would be in and out of there on any given weekend. Off campus housing, but clearly significant underage violations. The year after he moved out, another house had DEA raid, about 30 agents stormed into the neighboring house at 6 in the morning. Dealers were living in the house.

I know young people think its cool to be designated as a “party school”, UDl had gotten away from that rep, but now, sadly it may gain this name again. Not cool for parents forking over a lot of money for an education. Last night police had to set up in front of Grottos to prevent the crowds from assembling again. A few tried.

the whole thing was just ridiculous and uncalled for. looked like no more than 150-200 kids ruining the reputation of a decent school and giving a bad name to the other 17,000 that go there. All the while putting themselves and other’s safety at risk. Even my 19 year old knew better and knew it was a recipe for disaster and stayed far away. 99% of the people there went there to “seek” this situation out. It was not near any dorms. Stupid kids just annoy me, attention mongers in this social media world thinking it’s “cool” to look like a complete idiot all on mom and dad’s dime. ugh… Can you tell I am less than thrilled about this? lol
