Don't get me wrong, I don't want to steal all the new uniforms from the real soldiers, but do any of you have any idea when West Point cadets will get the new army ACU uniform?

All I've heard are rumors, nothing definite

i think the entire army is supposed to have them by 2007 so maybe around then? Also, the new uniforms are wash-and-wear and no shiny boots anymore. do you think that WP is going to ruin the nw uniform by making cadets press them?

Nah, they wouldn't make us ruin the new uniform. We don't necessarily have to presss our BDUs even now. From what I've heard from people in high places, it looks like 2010 might be issued ACUs. The Army has to be in complete changeover by next year anyways. That would mean the 3 upperclasses would have to buy all new uniforms, and the ACUs are PRICEY. We don't polish the newer boots we have even now, we just blacken them.

You have to buy your own issue? Are you talking about those retarded gortex basic boots? Man those suck so bad and are impossible to shine. Are you allowed to wear normal boots?

Yea, we can wear the normal ones. And you're not suppposed to sign the gortex ones. I haven't worn the normal ones, but I do like the gortex.

The money for the new uniforms will come out of the funny money, so we never really get to see it anyways.

I like the gortex for field use and road marches, but in garrison theyre' meh.. they do come with vibram soles though, which is nice

funny money...you mean the 800$ a month is WP credit??

Yep, that would be it WoW.

mrgreenapple, I really do like the Vibram soles. I guess I don't really have a basis for comparison, 'cause I've only ever had these boots.

the gortex hold too much moisture and take two to three days to dry out

It will be good when cadets receive ACUs from the get-go because currently grads have to buy all new ACUs when they first join a unit that has switched to them. The several pair of BDUs they own then become useless. As someone mentioned, the expense is not small.

As we wear the same size shoe, my son has told me not to buy any winter boots or hiking boots because as soon as he joins his unit (1st CAV) I'll acquire his complete current inventory (almost all special order, not standard issue).
