Cadet Candidates

Anyone whos been accepted: do you think we're getting more correspondence or is this it until Beast?

Son was told at his overnight visit that he would be receiving a package with an ethics book to read - no sign of it yet. Has anyone else received it?

Please, please PLEASE don't be that guy or girl that tries to wear Cadet Casual and look cool when you come on your visit.

cadet casual and look cool? explain.

when i visited, a good number of kids were wearing their jrotc uniforms, and got made fun of so hard behind their backs :)

Exactly--that black polo shirt that gets issued for IAW. If we see candidates that wear that here, we just laugh hysterically. It's actually a uniform item here.

what about a NateDogg t shirt and baggy pants?

when i went for my candidate visit, i had never heard of cadet casual. As it turned out, I brought with me a black polo shirt and khaki pants.

how the hell was i supposed to know. They said dress nice.

but i suppose it is funny to laugh at someone who has never been to west point and as such has never been exposed to their sop's or uniform standards. i mean, it makes sense.

Dude, don't get all defensive. I'm just trying to help those guys out that haven't been yet. Besides, it's not like I personally called you out on it.

It's not THAT big of a deal. It's not like your Cadet career is now utterly and completely ruined because of it.

just sayin'

jrotc... lol

i'm not sure what they mean. dress however you want. cadets like to make fun of candidates, especially plebes, because they feel superior to someone for once. i'm pretty sure most cadets could care less how you dress.

This is an honest question, not sarcastic. Are you a Cadet, Homer? Are you at Prep school right now? Or are you entering with 2010?

i am here right now. i'm a plebe.

What Company are you in? I'd agree with you about the feeling superior thing--it happens a lot.

Yeah, don't worry about what you wear, really. In the long run it doesn't matter at all. There are some bitter cadets who make fun of candidates no matter what. Plus, there's always that plebe who harrasses the candidate and says things like: "Don't come here! It was the worst mistake I ever made!" Don't listen to them either. They're just being silly. ;)

While I was doing my overnight visit, some hs junior showed up for a day visit in a full-blown trenchcoat. it was about 70+ and he NEVER took it off. "cadet casual" ain't got nothin' on him...

To get this thread back on topic, I'd like to know if any accepted candidate has received anything after the boot letter and suggested workout packet? Everyday I come home hoping to see a big yellow envelope with more information in it from West Point, and everyday it's not there.
