New user, going for Theatre Major.

Hi, I'm new here so I hope this is the appropriate place to post this. I'm a HS Junior and started researching colleges a few weeks ago. I'm going to be primarily going for BFA programs/conservatories etc., and I think I'm on the right track but would love some advice from anyone here about researching, preparations, or any other things/tips for someone in my position. I feel like I'm coming off as "stop what you're doing and focus on me" but I'm not sure how else to word this.

The schools that have sparked my interest so far (in order) are:
-Depaul
-UNC School of the Arts(in-state)
-Carnegie Mellon
- UNC Greensboro
- Northwestern University

I very much appreciate any replies with tips or advice. Thank you!

How much acting training and experience do you already have? (I’m assuming acting is what you are interested in, although you don’t specifically say so).

In general, I would advise you to get as much acting training and experience as you can, and start working on your audition pieces for these schools.

KEVP

Yes I’m interested in acting, should have put that up there, though.
I’ve been in a 4 high school shows, been in a professional improv troupe for about 2 1/2 years, and I guess that’s about it. Not a lot, I know. I am planning on doing a lot more in the coming weeks and summer to get more of a feeling for everything.

Thank you for the advice!

You sound “on-track” to me. Keep getting more training and experience, and remember to put it all on your resume. Not many HS Juniors have 2 1/2 years experience doing improv at a professional level!!!

KEVP

Since you’re in-state, you might consider looking at the high school program at NCArts. It should be very affordable and they would help you prepare for college auditions. It may be a little late to audition, but you only know if you ask!

Also, two of the schools you mentioned are in-state, so you should visit as soon as possible and learn as much as you can.

Will definitely put on my resume, and thank you again very much, KEVP!

I’m visiting UNCSA and Greensboro for Spring Break, looking forward to it.

I’ll definitely check out their high school program and see if there are any possibilities; thank you!
