New York City Big Four - Audit

I just recently decided that I would get a degree in Business Administration with an option in Accounting rather than Finance. I am quite interested in working for the Big Four in New York City, possibly as an Auditor, but I do have a few questions regarding transportation.

Since most people don't have a car in New York City and instead utilize the city's excellent public transportation system, would I be able to get away with being an Auditor in New York City for one of the Big Four without ever having to own or rent my own car?

The main reason I ask this is because I only have a motorcycle license due to the impracticality of having a car where I grew up and would like to avoid getting a class C license. Additionally, a personal "parking spot" in New York City starts at around $400/month. I know auditors spend 90% of their time traveling between clients, but would I be able to just utilize public transportation in New York City to achieve this?

I am more interested in Tax than Audit, but in case I can't get into Tax I would like to know what other options are available to me.

Thanks!

I know, at least for EY, that they do not require NYC employees to have a car and allow employees to rent if they have obligations outside the city. This, obviously, will nevertheless require a license.

I know a CPA in NYC with Big 4 experience. His company paid for him to take a taxi to the airport when he traveled, or to rent a car. But he needed a license to rent a car at his destination or to drive the rental car out of town.

It’s not impossible to park in the street in many parts of Brooklyn and Queens that are very accessible (like 1/2 hour or less) to offices in Manhattan via public transportation. And all new-construction buildings are required to have parking, although it can be expensive. We live 15 minutes from downtown and 30 from midtown Manhattan on the subway and park in the street in Brooklyn, no charge.

Hmm, interesting. I know the big four have locations all over America and given the sheer size of the general New York City area and how many businesses are located there, I thought that their NYC locations would only soak up local clients. That’s quite a shame.

Oh well, further solidifies my drive to special in tax. Thanks!
