Hey, Does anyone know anything about universities in New Zealand? I’ve heard its affordable and not as expensive as universities in the US or UK. I’m an Indian student, I want to do my undergraduate studies abroad. How good is New Zealand to study and live in? Are there a lot of Indians there? Thanks
Kia ora, I’m a kiwi, and I’ve lived in New Zealand my whole life. Yes compared to the US or the UK university fees may seem cheaper but it really depends on what university you attend and what subject your studying. For example in Auckland where the University of Auckland is, the living costs are very expensive. Auckland is one of the most expensive cities in the world, next to Los Angles, New York and London, but it’s also one of the best places to study and hardest to get into in NZ.
I may be a bit biased but aside from the cost’s NZ is a great place to live and study in. There are people from all over the world that come here to study and live, so you definitely won’t feel alone, and depending on where you live it’s a beautiful place that you could travel around in your free time. Yes there are Indians here although how many I cannot say. There are also multiple other nationalities such as Maori, Chinese, German, English, Samoan, Korean, so we’re a very diverse country, and you get to meet a lot of different people.
Feel free to ask more questions.
Cheers
Also a Kiwi here, although I’ve since moved to Australia and then America.
Have a look at both Australian and New Zealand universities. U of Auckland is the only internationally known NZ one AFAIK, but like @kiwichic77 said, Auckland living costs are huge. U of Melbourne in Australia is a top uni in the world (top 50 in many rankings), but living costs aren’t cheap either. Still, I think you can survive if you share an apartment with a few friends.
Many immigrants (speaking from second-hand experience) were able to live near Auckland in shared housing and travel to U of Auckland for school. Granted housing prices have probably grown, you may still want to check out this possibility.
