Hi everyone. Just found this whole website. My D has wanted to go to Tufts since she was in 8th grade, we've already had a visit (soph year) and she corresponds with them off an on. Unfortunately, the financial situation doesn't look good as we probably won't qualify for any need based aid and I have just come to find out that Tufts gives nothing based on merit.

That being said what recommendations do you have for back up schools she can apply to in the area - her interests are chemistry/biology/engineering (not sure exactly which combination just yet). Stats - Jr. year, GPA 3.98, weighted 4.25, rank 6/660, NHS. Hasn't taken SAT's yet, AP Calc AB, all Hon classes if offered; Has 3 more AP classes on Senior schedule. Several EC's including years of competitive dance team outside school and moderate work schedule.

Thank you all for your help. I have much reading to do over the next few weeks/months.

Thanks crimsondreams. I did see the thread on safeties, but it doesn't really address the financial aid question. But thanks anyways.

Oh, sorry! Well I know that there's loads of merit-based scholarships out there, search around? Haha sorry I'm not very helpful when it comes to finaid.

If you look in the back to the Tufts Bulletin (I have the book, but I'm pretty sure it's available online too) there is a whole section of scholarship funds which might be based on need and merit, though I'm no completely sure. There are so many of these scholarship funds, however, in addition to outside scholarships.

I would tell your daughter to apply to Tufts in case you qualify for more aid than you thought, and in case she can get outside scholarships.

www.fastweb.com is your friend for scholarships, get her going now to apply for everyone she is eligible for. :)

Good luck!
