Hey guys, I am new here and I have a bunch of question so could you guys bare with me a little bit please?..
First off let me give you a little background information; my name is Sean Kennedy I am from Worcester , Ma. I go to a special school that focuses on special needs kids, by special needs I mean kids who have psychological problems. They mostly focus on academics, but they dont really dont have the best type of school counseling, What I want to know is whats the best type of prep books for the both SAT/ACT? which ones are bad?? I want to go into school for medicine( Cardiothoracic surgery) and I am wondering what I need to practice for it. Also with the ACT can you pick the subject you want to take the test it ( science, math, english, history, ect) Also my school has only one counselor for the entire school ( approx. 60 kids) would that mean I should hire a College advisor? and how does one come to get one ? One more question since I plan on graduating in 2015 I plan on taking the SAT/ACT in the fall can I go and apply to colleges that year? I heard they can accept you with what they have and then if you get a bad grade they can deny you. Is that true? My apologies for all these questions i am new trying to figure out this college route. Any help would be appreciated

Can help on a few of the questions:

You are in high school, I a assume, and will be applying to start college in the Fall term 2015. In that case|:

Medical school is not an option now. You go to medical school after you complete college, so you are still several years away before you can even consider applying to medical school and you should focus now on getting into college. The exception is that there are a small number of colleges that admit you to a combined college and then medical school program where you go to college for three years and then start medical school before graduating from college. To get admission to one of those programs requires both high grades and high SAT or ACT test scores, and even with stellar grades and scores, most are rejected for such programs.

You cannot just take sections of any given SAT or ACT test. The SAT currently has three sections, comprehensive reading, math, and writing which includes an essay. ACT has four sections, reading, Math, science, and English, plus an optional essay. You must take the whole test except that currently the essay section is optional for the ACT. However, be aware that many colleges require you to take that essay section if you submit ACT.

If you intend to enter college in the fall term 2015, you not only can apply for admission in the Fall 2014, you must apply for admission then for most colleges. You also must complete all SAT or ACT testing by no later than Dec 2014 or Jan 2015 for most colleges. Just be aware that if you are now a junior, most juniors in other schools first take the tests in the second semester of junior year.

You will be admitted to college based on the information available, including grades, at the time the decision is made which decision will be made sometime before the second week of April 2014. the timing of decisions varies among colleges anywhere from sometime in the Fall 2014 to first week of April 2015 for Fall 2015 admission. Some colleges have early programs that allow decisions by December 2014 while also having “regular” decison periods that could be as late as early April.

Colleges reserve the right, after you are admitted, to withdraw your admission if your senior year grades end up lousy.

Thank you so much ! I can’t thank you guys enough!
