Newhouse - help!

Hey guys!

I'm currently in the process of making my final college decision -- where to attend in the fall. As of now I'm quite undecided regarding what I want to pursue at college -- I've been accepted to BU (CAS), Cuse (Newhouse & Whitman Dual Enrollment), UCSD (Social Sciences Undeclared), and UCD (same as UCSD).
From what I've learnt from doing some research over the past few months on the internet, I've gathered that Syracuse's Newhouse has a seriously prestigious reputation, and thus naturally I found it quite attractive. However, I've been a little conflicted too -- several of my 'merican teachers who've studied and lived in the states have never heard of Newhouse (I'm an international student), and that fact aside, I've heard from some sources that Newhouse isn't as selective as it sounds, that its selectivity and prestige are 'self-propagated' and inflated. I hope this isn't true, but at this juncture I honestly have no idea what to believe. Money isn't an issue, but on the other hand I do wanna invest in an education that will have some sort of return, ha-ha.
...so, if anyone could offer any insight/suggestions at all, I'll reaally appreciate it!
For those on this board who've studied/are currently tackling the Newhouse/Whitman dual program -- is it worth the education (and forgoing the other choices? at the moment, my top choices are BU and Cuse)

I’m a very biased parent whose D did the dual Whitman-Newhouse program. It is a very rigorous program with Whitman providing a solid business background and amazing Newhouse courses. Newhouse Alumni are everywhere - especially on the East Coast and provide a supportive network. Your decision may also depend on what you want to major in in Newhouse - the schools may have strengths and weaknesses in specific subjects. You have great choices!!

I find it interesting that your “'merican” teachers have not heard of Newhouse! I have been to countries as varied as Venezuela and France, where there were plenty of people who were very much aware of SU as a result of the reputation that Newhouse had (no, it was not because of the SU Men’s Basketball Team!). In any case, congratulations on your acceptance to all of the schools that you mentioned in your post - none have the reputation in communications that Newhouse has. BTW, I say all of this as a parent of a student that was accepted to Newhouse, but will not be attending.
