-Native American male(URM) from Oklahoma at a top 300 school. I dont know how. School never sends kids to top schools…one to Duke this year but that was a miracle.

-2100 SAT, 32 ACT- MIGHT come up.

-3.7cum GPA(3.5frosh year), about 3.8 from then on. Rank is iffyrobably top 4-8% if not higher

-AP Scores: All 4’s and 5’s, but no AP Calc or AP Physics. Hardest was probably AP Chem

-ONLY TWO YEARS OF A FOREIGN LANGUAGE* Long Story =(

-ONLY MATH THROUGH PRE-CALCULUS. I know that calc is big at Wharton so I am considering a CC class. My counselor will inform adcoms on my application that this was not an option.

-ECs: I have three passions
Tennis-I am a nationally ranked tennis player at a top 10 junior club in the US. This takes up a ton of time, and I play on varsity as well-I have been the only player from our team to make it to state…TONS OF TIME
2.Volunteering-I have volunteered at nursing homes, the art museum, with the less fortunate and with Cystic Fibrosis. I REALLY love doing this, I did not just do it to fulfill my service requirement to graduate. This is a possibly essay topic, but I do not want it to come off as cheesy. However, I think I can write an essay that will not come across like that…

I am also VERY involved with the school. Stu-Co Chair and officer.
I have been to a few leadership programs and camps that are invite only. I really LOVE the stuco stuff at my school as well. I have taken leadership (stuco) class for 3 years as well.

-I really only have 3 passions but I hope that shows.

I have JUST started to become interested in some LAC’s and really have no idea how I stand compared to some larger universities…
Thanks in advance!

I have a problem with such posts since none of us is on the admissions committee nor do we know the thinking of the admissions from year to year.
There are so many variables in admissions that no one on this board and actually tell you what your chances are. Highly academically talented students are routinely rejected. If you have an opportunity, find out who the Amherst admissions officer is in your region and be in touch with them.

I got waitlisted-->rejected last year. My stats were a 2200 SAT, 98%/100% GPA, 6 APs with 6 5's, lots of ECs including 2 sports and a few leaderships, tons of work exp., etc.

The thing was I am international and needed like $40k in aid. That's probably why they rejected me. In your case I say you have a shot, but again the accept rate is 15%, so it's unpredictable.

Thank you all for your responses. I WILL NOT be applying for financial aid and I am unsure if this is a positive or negative when applying with my status?

Since you are a domestic applicant, your not applying for financial aid won't have any impact whatsoever. Amherst is need blind for domestic applicants, and working towards becoming so for international applicants as well. You won't get a boost for being low-income or anything, but being a Native American will more than make up for that.

Since you are among the top 50 Native American male applicants in the country, you can go anywhere you want. We don't have to know the thinking of the admissions officers on this one 'cause it's a no-brainer.

Thank you for your info catfish and your positivity mini...I really find the top 50 in the nation thing hard to believe however I know the statistic of native americans in college isn't so hot...11% enrolled I believe : /

"I really find the top 50 in the nation thing hard to believe however I know the statistic of native americans in college isn't so hot...11% enrolled I believe."

I was simply going on the basis of your current SAT and ACT scores. The CollegeBoard and others have run data by race/ethnicity. You ARE among the top 50, and can go to any college or university in the U.S you want (and many will pay you for the privilege.) You don't have to be on an admissions committee to know that.

Dartmouth on average is probably 3-4 degrees colder, and has a bit more snow. However, in both Hanover and the Five-College area, the snow plows are out immediately. Classes are never cancelled, and public transportation never stops.

mini, could you please show where you found that data, I have looked on the collegeboard site, but I am not that proficient on the internet. I would be intersted in data for african americans. Thank you. p.s., and ACT if you have that would also would be apprciated. thanks. DD is going for diversity weekend so I would just like as much information as possible,(she is so so excited, her #1)

mini is right, Dartmouth is a bit colder and has more snow but not enough difference by itself to reject it in favor of Amherst. Your chances could be even better at Dartmouth because of an historic commitment to educating Native Americans. If New England weather is an issue for you, consider Haverford and Swarthmore.

The weather is not too much of an issue to me.. My parents mainly wanted me to take it into consideration (which I will). I kinda like the snow actually...but I will probably get there and won't know what hit me.

If you are so highly ranked in national tennis aren't you being scouted by all manner of schools with great programs such as Duke, UCLA etc? Have u made your interest in Amherst known to the tennis coach? With your ethnicity and fairly strong grades etc plus your tennis the coach at any school in the US can get you a tip with any admin office. You need to narrow down your choices, contact every school you would love to attend especially the tennis coaches and wait for the braying pack to recruit you. When my D applied there was a wonderful woman head tennis coach at Amherst.

P.S. Shout out to you and your daughter, Evita.
