Does anyone know if colleges recruit students who are awarded Honorable Mention or Merit on their NFAA audition? I was told that they will get scholarship offers and am wondering if schools receive the list of award winners and actively recruit students. If so, when do they start recruiting and does anyone know what kind of offers the students may receive?

Thank-you..

I believe a list of award winners is sent out to arts colleges. I do not believe these schools actively recruit after seeing such a list. That list comes out after many will have already sent in applications and lined up audition dates. I am not aware of scholarships offered directly from colleges for Honorable Mention and Merit Award winners.

My daughter was an NFFA Merit Award winner in MT. What she did was to include mention of this achievement in an update letter to her colleges since most of her apps were in by the time she found out she had won an NFAA Award and she sent a letter to each of her colleges with a few updates (this was not the only achievement or news that she had since her app was filed). She also added it to her theater resume that was given at all her auditions that winter.

Now, she was offered scholarships at 7 BFA schools but none of these were for having won an NFAA award. That award perhaps added to her “credentials” so to speak but I am not aware of any college sponsored scholarship given specifically for an Honorable Mention or Merit Award. NFAA itself gives scholarships to finalists though.

I have shared my understanding, as well as personal experience, but if anyone knows otherwise, please chime in!
