I was recently rejected from the National Honor Society. (I was more than qualified: 4.0 (uw), 6 leadership positions, and 300+ hrs. of community service). However, the deadline for submitting the applications was Thurs., and there was so much stuff going on that week that I totally thought it was due Fri.

After stressing out the entire day, and making numerous calls to my mother to retrieve the rec. letters from the house, I finally got everything in by 12 that day...4 hrs late.

Despite my qualifications, I was rejected. I feel terrible right now b/c I have wanted to be in the society since freshman year. I guess the purpose of this post is that I wanted to let prospective NHS inductees know that the admissions committee is very strict (due to national guidelines) and will not care if you're the validictorian or not if you can't follow their rules.

As another example, this guy got a 1600 in my school on his SATs (the old one, of course...) and he was rejected for a "lack of leadership."

I know for a fact that several qualified students who could really add a lot to the society are rejected each year, and sometimes unjustly so...
