How is the nightlife at Michigan? Is it easy for incoming freshmen to get into the mix? Are there thigns to do besides drinking? How are the sororities?

Ann Arbor’s a huge place. you can do what you want pretty much. college is what you make of it.

Nightlife at Michigan is everything you need/want from it. There are parties every weekend all over campus: frats and house/apartment parties (drinking required) as well as clubs, bars, sober events at the Union, late night food, and other things. It’s very easy for freshmen to get into the mix at frat parties (mainly because the brothers want to get new pledges). During welcome week Wednesday through Sunday (Monday is labor day) there will be some fraternity throwing a part somewhere that will let you in.

The sororities vary greatly. It’s not your typical “you have to be pretty to get into a sorority mentality (although some sororities take that approach)”. The rush is very intense. You basically have to spend 6-8pm about three nights a week going around to the chapters meeting the girls (which from what I’ve heard is probably the worst overall part of sororities).

I was in a fraternity and just graduated this May.
