nightlife

what is the nightlife like at emory. I have heard mixed reviews. Does the majority of the student body like to party? Where do people go out -- is it easy to go into atlanta? I am looking for a spirited campus where people like to have fun... does emory fit?

Night life at Emory is whatever you make of it. There are definitely parties every weekend night just like every other college, and lots of people go. But there’s also no pressure to go if you don’t want to, which is nice. Going out on the weekends is always a fun way to meet new people!
Freshman can’t have cars, but Atlanta is very accessible! There are free shuttles to lots of fun places around Atlanta on the weekends, and there’s always Marta, the public transportation system. Plus, lots of upperclassmen have cars, so there’s always someone to get a ride from or borrow a car whenever you need!
Emory is not a wild party school, but students certainly enjoy themselves!

As latayl2 said, there are parties every weekend, but there is little pressure to go and you aren’t bothered or anything if you go and decide not to drink. There’s a lot to do if you don’t party often as well. Many of the freshman dorms have kitchens and parlors/common rooms with tv’s, so groups of people often make dinner together and have a movie night. There are also a lot of performing arts events that go on throughout the year on campus.

This past weekend was fall break, so a group of friends and I went into Atlanta. MARTA (the public transportation system) is relatively easy to use once you’ve figured it out (though many people complain about it) and have a breezecard (dealing with cash can be annoying). In Atlanta there’s the coke museum, zoo, and aquarium, not to mention a ton of great restaurants, clubs for those over 18, and concert venues. Whatever you want to do with your weekends, you’ll be able to find it either at Emory or within a relatively easy MARTA ride.

Hey, I’m really interested in anything else anyone can tell me about both on and off campus night life.

What else do you want to know?

favorite part about emory is DEF the nightlife!
Every weekend, usually thurs friday and sat, there are frat parties. The frat scene is actually huge here, very rarely have my friends or I gone to a party non-frat sponsored. Usually at least one themed party a weekend (so far Ive been to toga, neon, jersey shore, 80s, jungle, white-out, heaven and hell, etc) so you never have to have a dull night. Thursdays though, there are usually things in the city (like club parties and such) that most students cab to. Cabbing is the most efficient transportation here, drivers usually charge 2 to 3 dollars a person but once you become friends with one they hook you up (for lack of a better phrase) all the time.

so fun!

Does the majority of the student body like to party? Where do people go out
Frat scene is huge, if you’re sociable, you’ll need to be part of greek life. Most students like to party, and they usually attend fraternity parties are hang out at this local bar called Maggies, as it’s fairly lenient towards fakes.

-- is it easy to go into atlanta? I am looking for a spirited campus where people like to have fun… does emory fit?
It is easy if you have a car. If not, there are campus shuttles that take you to shopping malls. If you mean spirited as in…sports spirit, then it is non-existent here at Emory. However, if you’re on the soccer/lacrosse/baseball/rugby team, then you will be recruited by fraternities, which are the centers for social life here Emory.
