My son was planning to apply for NIH, but seems like they changed the age requirements to participate in SIP. Earlier it used be 16 and seems like now it is 17. Any one noticed?
They also changed their geographic requirements for minors - if you’re not within 40 miles of the labs, you can’t apply.
That’s not the only significant change. A new policy is apparently that you can’t contact PIs on your own anymore. You have to apply through the application… re:point 3. Or am I misinterpreting?
“IMPORTANT NOTES: (1) Only individuals who apply through the SIP online application system will be allowed to intern at the NIH. (2) Only individuals whose official documents demonstrate that they meet all High School SIP eligibility criteria will be appointed to the program. This applies to both paid interns and unpaid Special Volunteers. (3) High school students should NOT contact NIH investigators to inquire about positions. Individual investigators are no longer involved in the HS-SIP summer intern selection process.”

for comparison of NIH Programs, where for HS-SIP it says, “Research Group Selection: IC selection Committee makes placements”.
hey guys! My friend applied to NIH SIP and was wondering if anyone has heard back yet. He knows that the decision process changed greatly from last year, and that decisions should be out by 5/1, so anyone get any news?
I haven’t heard anything either
Has anyone heard anything

Have you heard anything? I would call them.

Hi! So I applied for the NIH summer internship program (Based in Maryland) in February, and I haven’t heard anything back yet. Their deadline for giving us a decision is on May 1st, and I’m worried that I won’t hear anything until then. Is it still possible to get picked this late in the game, and if you applied, have you heard anything back yet? Any info would be much appreciated.
I haven’t heard anything either. Does anyone know if anyone has heard back yet?
Haven’t heard back either and haven’t heard anyone that has heard back either. Has anyone heard back yet?
I know one friend who said she heard back 2 weeks ago but she did the program last year and had that same mentor personally contact her asking if she was applying again. Is she an exception or does everyone who got in know already?
this is really late, but i was accepted and heard back in late march!
