Ninth Grade ECs

Hey guys-
I think I have pretty good ECs and that I really have developed a passion for debate, forensics, and politics during HS.

Here's my issue--10th, 11th, 12th grade are well covered in terms of ECs on the Common App. Yet for my freshmen year, it looks like I only did debate and FBLA. The reason, I used to play a sport and did some other stuff that I realized didn't have much in it for me. Is it going to hurt me a lot if I truly do put my 7 most importnat ECs that are from the latter half of HS only on the Common App. I plan to attached a resume with everything, but I'm not sure if all the adcoms will read that, so I want to make sure I'm giving myself the best chance with my application.

Thanks for your insight.

It's natural to build a resume over the course of your four years. It's only concerning to colleges if you suddenly join random, disconnected clubs your last two years. Ninth grade is a time to feel things out and gain some footing. If you have leadership and/or awards, likely in debate for you, then you've proved your focus.

^^^Agree, trying things out freshman year is not a problem at all. Some schools don't even include freshman grades; so minimal or scattered ECs won't detract.
