Hi I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten their NJ STARS added into their financial aid package. I am still waiting for my TAG though so I don't know if that has anything to do with the STARS...

TAG is seperate from NJ STARS. I haven’t had my NJ STARS applied to my term bill, but I was thinking it might be because I didn’t send in my final transcript showing my Associates degree yet. I don’t think it will matter for me anyway since NJ STARS is applied after all other financial aid and counts only toward toward tuition and fees. My other financial aid ended up covering all the tuition and fees so I’m not expecting to get anything from it anyway.

I believe stars does wait for TAG to be applied

Okay that’s good to know. I declined my unsubsidized loan but I still have the subsidized loan…I want to reject my subsidized loan too but I’m just waiting to see how much nj stars money I get.

I emailed them about it and this is part of what they replied:

“We are currently awaiting official documentation from the State of New Jersey regarding the status of potentially eligible NJ STARS II recipients. We must receive and use this documentation in order to review students for NJ STARS II. We expect to receive this information in the near future, however, we have not been given a specific date by the State.”

This was about 10 days ago. So I’m still waiting too.

“If you wish, you may contact Student Accounting directly to inquire about your options regarding your term bill due date. While I do not know if they have a specific policy regarding extending the due date, it may be in your best interest to speak to someone in that department, explain the circumstances, and see if they are willing to extend the date by which your payment is due.”

So it may not come before the due day. I enrolled in the payment plan so NJ stars will be one of my monthly payments.

Thanks for that info! I’ll definitely call Student Accounting then to figure something out.

Did anyone receive the email and read the part where it said that nj stars will “deduct up to the $3,500 amount from the cost of tuition on your Fall 2011 term bill that is not already covered by other forms of State and Federal grants/scholarships.”

Does that include loans? I don’t really understand this. I’m going to give the financial aid office a call, but I want to hear from you guys first. I have the subsidized loan, and because I accepted that I got a grant of 3500 per year (1750 per semester). So if I take away my loan that grant goes away too. Is the loan considered to be applied to the tuition? If it is not and I just keep it there, would I only receive the amount of nj stars to cover the rest of the tuition?

I don’t really understand how this would be calculated. It says that we won’t receive an updated term bill, so I don’t know how to do it.
