NMF Presidential Scholarship v. Acceptance?

From CC, I have learned that the NMF Presidential Scholarship at USC is a guaranteed half tuition scholarship to all NMF. But, that has me wondering: what effect will that have on my acceptance? Does the guaranteed scholarship mean that I have a practically guaranteed admission as well? Will it factor at all in admission or is it meaningless?
Thanks!

Being a NMF is a positive in terms of admission chances, but not at all a guarantee. Your application will be considered as a whole, with NMF status working in your favor.

thats good to hear. do you by any chance know (just in general) how much of a positive it is? The rest of my app is competitive, so by no means do i need it to make up for a poor app, but USC is a fairly competitive school so any edge I have is good.

I don’t think it’s TOO big of a positive, but I’m sure it helps.

For my own curiosity, is the NMF scholarship 1/2 tuition each year, or for only one year?

The NMF Presidential is for four years*, and if tuition rises, the scholarship rises with it to always cover 1/2. It is currently about $21,000/year. (There is an extra $1,000 w/the NMF Presidential.)

*You must maintain a 3.0 or higher and 32 units per year

mum,
There was a list last year of NMF students who were not admitted. The rest of your application is considered very carefully. Certainly it is a plus for an applicant.

According to the Princeton Review USC is ranked as “Most Selective” the last time I checked. With the higher ranking in U.S. News and financial challenges in competing public universities I expect applications this year to top 36,000. USC had a lower acceptance rate than Johns Hopkins, UVA and Georgetown in 2009.
