NMF Rejection Letters are likely being received this week.

It’s weird, but so many other stressful things are happening in my life right that getting to NMF is actually pretty low down on my list of worries.

@albert69 hang in there. Things will work out. Anything we can help with?

Oh, @albert69, I’m so sorry to hear that you’re stressed! I’m sure all the parents on this thread are rooting for you and none of us want to see you worried. My own DS has a lot going on right now, but he’s rather oblivious to the NMF stress, which is definitely how his mom prefers it  I will manage the worrying for DS and me.

Hopefully you have trusted adults in your life, starting with your parent(s), who can help you through the things that are happening and getting you down. As a mom, the most important thing to me is the healthy & happiness of my children - much more important than NMF or any other award or accomplishment. Please make sure you’re taking care of yourself and reaching out to those around you for help and support during your senior year. The parents on this thread are here for you, too, so please keep us posted on how you’re doing.

We went to the UCF event in Nov too and it was really nice. This is DS’s first choice school and we have been there several times in the last 6 months. I will say that in our experience, the NM recruiter there is the MOST professional, knowledgeable, and easiest to communicate with of all of the NM recruiters we have been in contact with. UK has never yet been able to “match” us up with “our” recruiter, always telling us that he is tied up somewhere else, even when we visited campus, and again at the travelling See Blue event that came to our town. At the See Blue event, the Provost for Enrollment had sent us a mass mailing to touch base with him and introduce ourselves, which we tried to do three times throughout the evening, but he was always too busy with other employees of the university to even say hello. I have called and emailed Alabama’s local recruiter and she sends me emails that say she’ll call me tomorrow but never has yet. Auburn’s recruiter just doesn’t return or acknowledge calls at all. Oklahoma Univ is a little more communicative, having students call us repeatedly, right at dinnertime, but with no real info to offer. These schools frustrate me because their emails and mailings indicate that they want to engage with us, but trying to communicate with them is literally futile. It’s like they’re farming, but not harvesting. This must be the new “marketing” way to attract students?
By contrast, the recruiter at UCF has always followed up with mailings and emails by phone, always has specific information about the process and the school to offer, and has spent time answering my questions by phone, even calming my nerves about the rejection letters telling me that there are other ways to get DS to UCF with scholarships for SF’s. He hasn’t made big promises, but instead showed us through other NMSF’s at UCF how they are valued and treated on campus. Their Honors College is impressive too. It’s not all about hard classes, but about the overall Honors experience, teaching these kids to really think rather than always chase a grade, and has some unique experiences that he won’t get anywhere else. In my book, UCF is setting the bar high for schools wanting these, kids (just my opinion, for what it’s worth). When we first visited UCF last summer, we had been to probably 8 schools and honors colleges by then, and they were all starting to swim together, but as soon as we experienced the Burnett Honors College, we had that a-ha moment and we just knew. I bet that each of you on here had that same moment with your first choice schools. We really like their recruiter and he’s one of the big draws for us to that school - extremely professional, detail-oriented, and communicative.
Sorry for the long post. Also, no disrespect intended to other schools, this is just our experience.

We <3 Luke too. And those dorms are ridiculous. In a good way.

Oh yes they are! DS is so happy that he will have his own bedroom- it’s making his anxiety about college so much less stressful!

My husband considers Luke to be one of his BFFs, LOL!

Luke says re Finalist status, that ‘No news is good news’ this week.

Oh my gosh, Luke is cheating on me! Here I thought I was his “only one”. Somebody pass the cookies! <3

:x

@albert69‌, I can only imagine the stress you kids are under at school. Even though it’s Senior Year, the stakes are HIGH and I know they never let you forget it. My wish for you and all of the other Seniors is that you can take some enjoyment and fond memories away from your Senior Year experience, even though most of you are well over-extended. Let yourself breathe a little that you didn’t receive a letter last week, and when you’re stressed, think about the BRIGHT future you’ve got ahead of you! Very best wishes to you!

He knows how to work a family. Hope he reads this. I’m cracking up.

Don’t remember son putting down a first choice school as he still is waiting on a few more schools before he makes his choice. Has everyone’s child here already chosen a school?

I doubt everyone has. typically you have until about Apr 30/May 1

That’s what I thought but reading thru this thread it seems many are so sure where they want to go to school already:-) Hope my son is being methodical and not wishy washy especially by mid April!

Well keep in mind you have to apply to the school of choice. At this point, S has only applied to one NMS free ride school. He’ll most likely be attending one of his reach schools, or UCF.

Another Day…No Letter. DH has staged a Conversation Hearts Intervention, but that’s OK.

How long, exactly, do those of us on the bubble have to hold our collective breath?

Thanks for the outpouring of support, guys! I am taking classes at a community college, dual enrollment, and I am trying to decide between two of them. I planned to take one of them, a math class, but the original class (with a great teacher and time) got cancelled, so I am in different section now at a terrible time with a turkey of a teacher. My other option is an english class that I have to do anyway for my degree (the math too, though) and it would help me round out my high school nicely plus it’s online (so no driving 45 minutes to school, which I am now doing 4 times a week plus other trips to a closer campus for another class) with a good teacher. I have two other cc courses plus other high school courses, of course, so… Just don’t know which one class to drop. And an out-of-state, possibly to be done via road trip college visit (assuming I make NMF) is coming up in amongst all this. Also, I want to have it all done by May so that I can go for my pilot’s license this summer. And still have a 4.0.

But no letter today. Whew.

@Albert69 “A turkey of a teacher” LOL

Anyway, it sounds like you’re under a lot of stress at this moment, but honestly, I think anyone who has not gotten a letter is safe by now. As for all the other stuff you’re going through, we’re all rooting for you

It’s so easy for me to choose from the outside, but it sounds like the required anyway English class is the way to go @albert69. As for the mail, no news continues to be good news here. Happy stress eating and drinking to all!

@PAMom21 You are right; I am planning to drop the math class today. We had just planned for over a year for me to take this math class now, so it’s hard to get used to the sudden change in plans.
