NMF Rejection Letters are likely being received this week.

No letter yet in MO. Feels like Groundhog day here, too  Good Luck everyone!

I know that Alabama requests a copy of the NMF cert. I assume that later UA is informed of who names them First Choice, but that might be after May 1st

Yep thatā€™s who it was. Plus they sent two congratulatory letters I guess reminding us of the scholarships. They send more letters and brochures than anyone else!

Made the trek again today, and was rewarded with the promising invitation to the reception and dinner for national merit finalists at UCF, from our good old pal Luke. Does this mean anything certain? Probably not, but itā€™s encouraging nonetheless.

I agree with @greeninohioā€Œ

Only 1000 NMSF donā€™t get finalist status. I would assume that about 500 didnā€™t submit their application or forgot to or did it too late, and the other 500 have low SAT scores or GPAā€™s or grades to make up for this one PSAT test.

I had a dream (or maybe a nightmare) last night that I got a rejection letter. I was very upset because the reason the letter gave was that I didnā€™t get a high enough score on my SAT essay to be the caliber of a Finalist or something like that. I then somehow found out that the letter was wrong and that it was supposed to to go to some girl in CA or something like that. Anyways, the last part is kind of a blur, but I woke up panicking and trying to figure out if that rejection letter was a dream. I want the acceptance letter to arrive so badly!!!

What state are the letters mailed from? Does anyone know?

@stemfamily I disagree, there was a thread last year about a booklet that had the names
of all the NMF listed by states Iā€™m sure that colleges get these booklets. I can still see the college asking for a copy of the certificate to make sure itā€™s the same student thatā€™s on the list.

Oooh, another Magic Book! Too bad my dinner invite didnā€™t arrive yesterday, when I could have contacted the legendary Luke, and asked probing questions. Still might come Monday!

@3scoutsman I believe you are confusing Semi-Finalists and Finalists. Can you link that thread? I think you are referring to a list of National Merit Semi-Finalists by state. There was a lot of debate about that existing but pretty irrefutable evidence that it did indeed exist. However, I have been following the NM threads on CC for several years and never seen anything about a list of NM Finalists.

^^^ I have the Semifinalist list for this year, so if you believe in me (questionable), believe in that, LOL! Still hoping that UCF has some insider scoop.

@STEMFamilyā€Œ Youā€™re right, my bad, it was the semi finalist list. Still it would make sense if they sent out a list of semifinalist theyā€™d also send one out for finalists.

If all goes well, I can ask GC if she got one next week. She gave me the one for SF as S was the only one from our school. Of course weā€™ll all know by then, but future generations will like the info!

@PAMom21 I believed you about the book in part because there were also other posters in previous years that were 100% accurate on the cut-off scores and names taken from ā€œthe bookā€. I canā€™t imagine why the GC wouldnā€™t be happy to share the news with you as soon as the Certificate is received. Ours Iā€™m not sure about if they want to hold back to tell everyone at once.

I understand the emotions in this but I think your strongest evidence of your child being a Finalist is that you have not received the dreaded rejection letter. When is the RSVP for the UCF breakfast? Maybe the school is assuming that recipients of an invitation for a Finalist dinner would not accept if they have a rejection letter or until they have been informed by either their principal or gotten the mailing from NMSC. UCF surely knows that the certificates get mailed to principals early this week and letters to the Finalists next week.

For semi-finalist, the principal emailed me personally AND called my son down to the office. It was nice to get that personal touch. Hopefully heā€™ll do the same sometime this week. Not sure the GC will be as eager to inform.

RSVP is March 6th, so plenty of time after next week. If I were to call, Iā€™d consider saying ā€œwe are so excited, and want to schedule air travel ASAP, but want to know for sureā€¦ā€

No letter here today. I got a note from OU asking me to apply, but Iā€™m not reading anything into that because Iā€™ve gotten mail from them for months.

@pamom21 maybe you can give olā€™ Luke a call and see if he knows? I canā€™t believe they would send that out to semi finalists who didnā€™t advance?

^That is a good idea. Maybe @pamom21 could call Luke using the same reason as calling her sonā€™s GC, ie need to schedule air travel ASAP.

Oh yeah, that air fare comment was aimed toward Luke all along, LOL! My husbandā€™s comment was ā€œhe doesnā€™t work on the weekendsā€. But maybe Monday, . (My GC will either know or not knowā€¦no subtlety needed there.)

OK, so whoā€™s Lukeā€¦and does he work at NMSCā€¦and is he an intern like Jimmie?

No letter today, which is a good thing because several hundred miles went on the car this weekend - traveling to a school that will only work with NMF scholarshipā€¦ Rolled that dice, hope it was a good bet.

@pamom21. We also received the UCF reception/dinner invite. Fingers crossed as son could also then attend UF with full ride as a FL resident (until the state cuts funding). Still, a nice bonus if it happens.
