NMF Rejection Letters are likely being received this week.

@albert69. I’m sure that your parents are as proud of you as we are. You deserve to be overjoyed at your accomplishment. Try not to compare yourself to your sibs. Life is not a race

Once this whole ordeal is over, regardless of the outcome for my DS, I am going to write a Country Song about it…

I don’t actually listen to country music, but I don’t see that as a deterrent.

@ZBD5421 I got one of those emails today too. I haven’t applied there and don’t intend to, so they were trying to get me to apply. I got a letter from them Saturday.

And @GoAskDad, let us know when the song comes out.

@ZBD5421, my son got an email from OU as well, but it didn’t say anything about waiting to hear on a scholarship". it mentioned waiting to hear about finalist status. But he also got something in the mail from Texas A&M saying that naming A&M as his first choice should be an easy decision. I took that as a very good sign!

Ok, in a perfect world, the letters would have gone out yesterday, plowed through the snow in IL, and will make their way to the schools TODAY. Then, our GC’s will open the mail as soon as it arrives, and call us first thing. Right??

Yes, and then Luke would join all of us for a wine an d cookie reception

@SparkleMom97, to quote Wayne’s World, “Yeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt”.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. I’m from Illinois, where Wayne’s World quotes are always considered to be in good taste.

Frequent lurker and infrequent poster since I hate typing on my phone but I can tell you all are waiting on pins and needles ( just like me) for this little ordeal to be one and done for your kiddos. UCF Luke is a charmer and so polite and helpful. My D proudly wears her UCF t- shirt and uses her UCF Tervis tumbler and packs her UCF back pack for track practice. All gifts from our visit! The accommodations at the Doubletree were lovely and the student ambassadors who drove us around in the covered golf carts in the pouring rain were friendly, informative and very natural in their expressions of love for the programs. The biggest draw for us in the Burnett Honors College. Dr. Madi Dogariu, the student services director at Burnett Honors College, was also very helpful to our D during our visit. UCF is definitely doing it right and I know some die hard Gator families who are strongly considering UCF for their bright kids.

No official letter yet but yesterday’s mail included a letter from Arizona State with big, bold letters on the outside saying “National Scholar Award Information Inside.” D is not considering Arizona State but I was interested in what clues the letter would provide as to Finalist status. I dutifully waited until D got home from school to open her mail, but by then my spouse had already thrown the letter away, mistaking it for old mail! Oh well. Anyone else receive that letter and can relate what it said?

@vistajay I also received the letter from ASU. I don’t have the letter in front of me but if I remember correctly it was from the dean of the honors college talking about opportunities offered to National Merit Finalists. It referred back to a letter that you should have received a few months ago about specific scholarship amounts.

I called NMSC yesterday at the Evanston, IL headquarters and was told that the NMF notification letters were mailed to high schools yesterday (Mon 2/2) However, as pointed out by a previous poster, they may be delayed by weather. I was also told the notification letters to the NMF’s themselves will be mailed to home addresses on Mon 2/9. So the earliest way to find out for sure will be for our kids to check later this week with their guidance counselor, principal, or whoever is the appropriate person at their school.

Homeschool principal here ready to post when/if we receive the letter. It took four days to get the semifinalist letter to get to me in Indiana.

Then hopefully my DS will know by the end of the week, either way. I think I’ll ask him to go to the office on Friday if he hasn’t heard anything prior to then. We’ve waited nearly a year-and-a-half, so I guess another few days isn’t going to matter in the grand scheme of things.

@ZBD5421, my son also got the “waiting to hear about finalist status” email from OU. He has not applied to OU though, so maybe they do know something (wishful thinking).

It’s so hard to wait. My son kept checking mail last couple of weeks. Stressful for the kids and parents too.

Here’s a theory - maybe colleges get a list of all the NMSF that did NOT make NMF, so they are still trying to court those who are still in the running?

All I have is an email from Dear Luke saying he officially knows nothing, :frowning: . Apparently they are NOT sent any list of actual finalists. But he’s assuming, .

@vistajay, I have the letter here and it includes the phrase: “…should you be named a National Merit Finalist…” Operative word being “should” - so I don’t think ASU has a list, though I sure wish they did.

Timelinewise…it would be cruel to send to those who did get letters last week.

Regarding the ASU letter…I was excited when I saw the envelope, but one I opened it, it was clear it was a mass mailing. My son has already applied and been accepted to ASU and Barrett. Its among his top 3-4 choices. He loved Barrett and the sunshine.

It may be cruel to send Finalist literature to the semifinalists on any colleges’ list that received a rejection letter, but I really don’t think most colleges care. It is similar to the Ivies and other very selective colleges sending out mass emails implying a shot to kids whose chances are pretty close to zilch for being accepted.
