NMSQT recommendations

I recently learned that i qualify for a national merit scholarship due to my psat scores. The letter i got says that they will send TWO recomendations to two schools of my choice, endorcing my application. I know one that i want but im having a really tough time picking my other one.

So i guess my question is: how much stock do schools really put in these recommendations? Will it really help me that much to send one in? And would it be wasted on my reach, since its unlikely i will get in, regardless?

Thanks everyone!*

sending anything in really isn’t important and does not impact anything other than the amount of mail that you receive. you will get another opportunity to “officially” declare a first choice and even that can be changed quite some time. just choose any 2 schools you are interested in (presumably ones that offer NM scholarships)

It sounds like you’ve been notified that you’re in the pool of 50,000 students who move on to the next level. That’s not the same as “qualifying for a national merit scholarship.”

If your PSAT is high enough to make NMSF in your state, then you’ll find out next Sept if you’re a junior now. Then, in Feb of senior year, Finalists are named.

What state are you in and what was your PSAT?
