No acceptances?

Wow. I’m just… wow. We have a school. D has been accepted at LIU for the BFA in MT. When I think of the number of things we almost didn’t do - like send her to unifieds to do walk-in auditions - I am stunned. It is almost too much to take in. This is the universe telling us she needs to be there. I am beyond grateful for all the support from everyone in this thread. I will continue to follow your stories. My first thought was “thank god!” My second thought was “what about all my CC friends who are still waiting for something to happen??? I need them to have a happy ending too!” (Cross posted on another thread)

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!

That is great news @NewEngMTMom !

Whew!! Amen!

@NewEngMTMom - so happy to hear of your Happy Ending!! <3

Oh, @NewEngMTMom , I am so happy for you and your D!!! Wonderful news!!!

@NewEngMTMom - Congratulations to you and your amazing daughter!!!

Congratulations, @NewEngMTMom!

Yippee @NewEngMTMom!

I know EXACTLY how you feel. Congratulations!!!

@NewEngMTMom I am so happy for you and your daughter ! Congrats

@NewEngMTMom I had a feeling this one would come through for you!! Congrats!

@NewEngMTMom - it’s deja vu all over again - just like me in 2014, only 4 days earlier!

I’ve been chatting with @NewEngMTMom privately for a while (since I found this thread). I am soooo happy for her d!! Well deserved, and definitely seems like it was meant to be. Congrats to all parents whose kids got their 11th hour acceptances. I guess our will be a 13th hour

Speaking of which: @Trish0118 , I thought I saw someone congratulate you, but I couldn’t find your post saying what the good news was! I kept scrolling back looking for it with no luck. Can you share it again?

@actorparent1 yes ! Hartt School -

OMG! That’s where my D is most likely going! (She’s sitting in on classes this Monday.) Congratulations, it’s a fantastic school!

Gap year advice? We have one school with academic but not artistic acceptance, and one accepted but pricey. Both will allow deferral (although the second artistic one would have to be formally requested and is not automatic), the former for which no college credit classes can be taken (or student will be viewed as a transfer student and not eligible for most scholarships) and the latter with no penalty for taking college credit classes unless over 12 hours, and even then, artistic awards still apply. Second time around, the list will likely look different. On the other hand, if auditions work out, college may go by the wayside.

@librarygirl8 a gap year was the best thing that my D ever did; given her lot/circumstances. Pm me, if you’d like-but I have been very transparent in this forum, re our struggles and triumphs. I do believe that it’s a better path than starting at a school that one has no intention of continuing at, especially due to the financial aspect.

GAP YEAR! I have been doing research by asking many professional Jazz musicians for advice. It really depends on the kid. IF they can be disciplined and have a plan for the year it can be a great way to get better without the added stress of Finances etc. It may still require getting lessons or finding mentors to guide them on their path, finding peers to challenge them and maybe even traveling. As we get closer to the end of the month my S is thinking that may be the best choice for him. He is going to be MUCH stronger next year for sure.
