No AP classes...can I still attend uniiversity?

So I'm going into my junior year of high school and I really wanted to take AP Calc, English, and History. The thing that hindered me from doing so was the fact that I moved to a new school in the middle of April, and everyone had already signed up for their classes in Feb/March. I tried to talk to my counselor about it but he said the classes are probably full and they were assigned work over the summer so I can't take them. I'm really afraid that this will negatively affect my chances of getting into universities like Emory, Tufts, Tulane, Claremont Colleges, Syracuse, Rice etc. I'll definitely be taking AP my senior year though

P.S. I was in the exact same situation last year so I didn't take any AP's my sophomore year either.(I move a lot)

You can still go to university without AP classes. There are many colleges in the US, and you don’t need APs for the majority of them.

Also keep in mind that colleges judge how much you did relative to the opportunities given to you. If you had trouble with course selection, because you moved, they’ll know. Your GC letter of rec. should mention it.
You can also consider taking CC or online courses.

Lol, are you being serious!? Of course you can still go to college. I know kids at my school that only took 2 or 3 APs (and no IB tests). (Although, the vast majority took way more than that). I agree with stressedouttt about having your GC mention the scheduling conflicts

That’s a good idea having my GC mention it. What concerns me though is the competition to gain admittance to those schools because they are competitive and most applicants will have taken AP’s all throughout HS and I’ll only have my senior year. You still gave me some sense of relief however so thanks to both of you:)

May: is there a way for you to contact the AP course instructors ASAP? See if it’s normal for a few no-shows or early drops to occur in the class. Tell them also you’d love to prepare the summer assignments just in case. If you show yourself to be very motivated, maybe some rules might be bent for you. Good luck.

@T26 That actually sounds like a great idea, unfortunately I have no way of contacting them. The school website only provides the classroom phone numbers and I don’t even know who the teachers are(I only attended the school for a month so far). School is starting next week and I’m getting my schedule this week so it’s too late anyway. Do you think it would look good if I self-study and take the AP tests without taking the class?
