I was just wondering how important awards are on your application, as my school doesn't really give out awards. Up until this last school year they only gave awards to seniors, then they began branching out by having an assembly for freshmen/soph. and juniors/seniors, however at the junior/senior awards assembly most of the awards were departmental and just went to seniors anyway (with the exception of attendance and honor roll). Is this something that I should even be concerned with, and if it is how can I communicate the fact that my school doesn't give out awards on my app?

IMO it depends on where you’re applying. HYP … you need them. State flagship … no.

So far I’m applying to…
Bard
Bennington
SLC
Whitman
Marlboro
College of Idaho (safety-ish)

there are also out of school awards
wendy’s heisman
presidential
ap scholar
national merit
the congressional award
various state awards
local awards (that you can get from volunteering and stuff)
etc. etc.

wait… this may be a bit lame-o but if I played in local/district music festivals and got a superior (highest rating) would that count?

hm, i was going to go for the congressional award this summer, myself. it would be my only award, but does it really count for much…?

well i got the lower level certificates and am aiming for the gold certificate.
i don’t know how much it helps, but i’m certainly including it

Yes rcm, they would count, but county/state ratings would be a bit better.
