I’m in my second semester of college and was originally a math major. I now hate math and science. I have no clue where to go from here. Currently, my dream job is to be a human rights lawyer (I have wanted to be since I was a little kid but then kind of switched interests a few times since). However I don’t know if I will have 100 grand to spend on law school and whatnot. So I want to major in something that I would enjoy, that would potentially prepare me for law school, but would also lead to a lucrative career if law school is unattainable. I like reading and writing and talking about social issues and global problems and economics and stuff like that. The only classes I’ve enjoyed so far in college would be global politics and popular culture (and I somewhat enjoyed micro and macro economics). Any input?
If you enjoyed economics and politics classes, why not major in either economics or political science? You could potentially enter well-paying careers with those majors, although truth be told many of those lucrative careers require facility in quantitative analysis.
Economics in particular needs good math and statistics skills. Good logical thinking skills that math causes you to practice can also be helpful on the LSAT and in law.
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/application-prep/ugraduate has some suggestions.
I have noticed International Relations graduates working for non-profit advocacy organizations. Most of the people working for such organizations are not actually lawyers.
