crikey mate thats unbelievable. quite impressive. and i thought my school was good.

now you beleive me? how's your school?

Hey Jon1138, look over here!

Bitter much? I dont know what era you applied to college in, but schools have seizures over great ECs like writing your own novel! So I have no idea what you're talking about with the whole, Wah, wah, they didnt like me, but its because Im better than them crap. Don't give yourself so damn much credit for 'making them think too hard. Such arrogance. And resentment. Just settle down and live your life.

frankly anyone who has a mind of their own doesn't give a hoot about being "involved" in their high school. Think for yourself, do your own activities.
So I assume involvement in any school sponsored activity automatically makes one a mindless drone? You know, You can exercise your individuality within the sphere of a school sponsored activity. Obviously you never tried that. It actually works quite well. It also helps that you can participate in multiple activities
so any specific combination of activities would be unique to the individual.

People like you sicken me. You have that Oh, Im different, Im above it all mentality. Just get over yourself. Ugh. Go write a book.

well two yrs ago out of a class of 300 we sent 3 to harvard, 2 to stanford, and like 8 to cornell. not so sure about other schools. last year we sent 3 to harvard, 3 to yale, 2 to columbia, not sure about other schools.

Nice discussion guys!!!!!! ......

Why don't you apply to Cambridge or Oxford?

They assess purely by numbers, or so I've heard.

Hrm. Interesting about Penn.

Oxford and Cambridge are respectable schools. If you're just after a big name school and care not for extracurricular activities at this point, and will not in the future, you'd probably do well to put in an application or two.

I should caution you, though, that I have it on good authority (I used to live in the UK, and my friends of old are now applying), that it's hard enough for people who have suffered through the (infinitely better, but also more difficult) British school system to get in. American credentials would need to be rather impressive indeed, to make the cut. I believe that your SATs may do you well, but there are more supplemental SAT II and AP Scores required.

And after jumping through all those hoops to get in, why would you want to pay for it? The English, I believe, don't have to pay that much. Slightly mroe for Scottish, Northern Ireland, Welsh, whatnot. European Union countries pay a bit more than that. Outside the EU, I'd say you were effectively signing away your soul in student loans.

Still, just my two cents on something that doesn't really matter to this discussion much at all.

i agree w/ pretty much everyone else.....ur grades are good, sats are WOW, but no significant ECs...

True Story - a friend of mine last year had high-1400s on his SATs, full-IB classes, and was valedictorian. His problem was that he had no ECs...he didn't get into his first choice, which was Columbia, but he did get into berkeley and ucla.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but seeing as how the UC app dead line has already passed...if you havent done any ECs, it might hurt ur app........but still 1570...DAMNNNN!!!

i very briefly considered oxford, but to apply there you hafta take some special exam for them offered in certain cities. i suppose its like a matriculation exam idk. but it wasnt worth it to me. i have a friend whose brother went to oxford, and he didnt have ultra high credentials, but i think he may have been a recruited athlete for lacrosse (i didnt kno they played lacrosse in europe)

56 attended Penn state
I SAID IT DOES NOT SHOW HOW MANY WERE ACCEPTED , only SHOW ATTENDANCE RATE

only 28/52 ATTENDED U PENN

WHY ?
Because some chose better schools such as Harvard , princeton , and so on
Some can not afford Penn or some other schools offer more money
Some wanted to leave Philadelphia , wanted live outside of philly

Penn accepts such a huge number from my school because we're in Philadelphia , they tend to treat us better , and my school being #2 oldest public high school in America , it has really tough reputation and Penn knows that

100 messages!!!!!

Hello......

well my school is doing well this year. already have 2 into wharton (im formerly stanfordwannab3) and two into the rest of penn (one of the last two may be huntsman, i didnt get the details). not bad for a non-charter town. i hear that colleges like harvard and pton have it in their charter that theyre required to take a set number from the town they are located in.

"Penn accepts such a huge number from my school because we're in Philadelphia , they tend to treat us better , and my school being #2 oldest public high school in America , it has really tough reputation and Penn knows that"

Oh? So now it's not the students' accomplishments getting them in but where they're from? What IS your school? You failed to mention its name, and yet here you are, claiming it's #2 oldest in the nation. If it's that reputable and that old, we should know of it, right?

Anyway...

I think Oxford requires the separate exam so they could look at that on top of our SATs, since they take different standardized exams...

And just walking into a club one day doesn't make you a member, unless it's something like an animation club or French club.

Why is Cornell so hard for me but easy for others

ya know...it is just plain unfairness
