My D has been accepted but there is no award of financial aid. Do these packages come out later or does she not have any aid?

I should have been more patient… Fin aid pkg came in this morning…approx. $25,000 of grants on a $58,000 school.

I got nearly 51,000 in financial aid. turns out ill only have to be paying 7000 per year. Excited!!

WOW! If you don’t mind me asking, what was your FAFSA EFC?

Hi Ducal17:Congrats on the grant for your D.
Would you mind giving the break up for 58000 cost of attendance.
I recall the university website estimates it at 52000.
I am wondering on what makes up the additional 6000.

$58000 is the estimated cost to live on campus with tuition for 2013-2014. The sandiego.edu website lists last years tuition and last years cost of living.

is getting like 22,000 grand a year good too?

In my experience it’s all relative to what you report as income, FAFSA formula, your test scores and GPA, and if they really really want you (ie stellar SAT’s). For the average middle class parent in SoCal, about $22-$25K award is typical. It’s actually the same for most colleges around the country, as they all key off of the unrealistic and out of date FAFSA formula. Under $50-$60K/yr income and your child will probably get almost a full ride, but the downside is that if you are living in coastal San Diego county you’ll probably be living in a homeless shelter…

I am curious…is the $51,000 financial aid ONLY grants and scholarships? No loans and work study? If i get loans or work study, I still include that amount in what I have to pay for college.

Hi everyone. I don’t know how to use this site so I hope I am posting in the correct area.
Ok, so I had no idea financial aid was due March 2nd and I turned it in April. I emailed the financial aid office asking to put me in the priority for aid. If I don’t end up getting priority aid then will I get enough $ to pay for living expenses and classes? Also, does UCSD financial aid waive the fees for classes? Please someone give me the run down of all of this because I am confused! Do they give you a set amount per year or do they distribute per quarter?

Thanks!
