I am aware of UC Berkeley's unique system for assigning Honors/AP credit; but I have a more specific question: UC Berkeley provides a list of approved Honors/AP courses; however, since all of these courses are from schools in California, can someone from a state other than California even designate any of their courses as being of Honors or AP caliber in the academic-record portion of the application?

Yes, go ahead and mark your course if Honors. You won’t get a bonus point for it, but it will still be flagged as honors so the app reader will know. You do receive a bonus point for AP/IB courses.

Bonus points aren’t as important for OOS applicants bcos UC doesn’t award them to you. Regardless, the application reader obviously knows the policy and will compare your gpa against others from OOS.

Thanks for the insight! UC Berkeley didn’t get back to me, so this response was certainly useful. :D

Note that even some courses marked as honors in California high schools are not designated as eligible for +1 honors points in calculating UC/CSU GPA (see http://doorways.ucop.edu ). Also, there is a limit on the number of honors points one can add to your UC/CSU GPA anyway.
