No Hope Left. Advice for a Sophomore?

And they still admit them all the time as far as I can tell.
Top 200 schools do, anyway. But a lot of the schools at the bottom of the top 50 accept most of their applicants too.

Lol…

My ECs sucked my first years of high school and I was able to get into Berkeley with an SAT/ACT below their average, so you have hope.

My only EC was Basketball until Junior year, when I joined CSF. Senior year I added another sport, student leadership, was president of CSF and co-captain of the basketball team and a few other things. Positions were easy to come by though, since my graduating class had 32 students (a small Christian school).

Good grades/essays helped.

Haha, ohh the dangers of auto correct.

Get a job, volunteer and find at least one club you really enjoy and become the leader of it. Work on your grades and enjoy high school. Take architecture/drafting classes and double up on math. Train to your absolute best ability for track or a sport you can manage. If you don’t do any of these then you will become very upset with yourself. As YOU HAVE A CHANCE RIGHT NOW TO CHANGE your lifestyle and prepare for college.

Some of you guys are harsh.

Thanks everyone who gave actual advice! I was hoping for CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, not being called pathetic for wanting to get into a top UC. It’s expected of me to get accepted into a prestigious uni just as my siblings have, so I feel pressured to have as many ECs as they had. I don’t see what the problem is with wanting to get into a top school. Some of you guys act like immature, elitist snobs.

Darlin’, your chances are not ruined. A few B’s will be perfectly fine on an application unless you’re aiming for Harvard, and as long as you get started on ECs now, you still have ample time.

Also, I know this may seem irresponsible, but don’t stress yourself out so much! Getting into college won’t be worth it if you spend all of high school miserable.

Everyone here wants to go to a top school. And for most of us, it is expected as well. I think people were rude because of the way you asked the question. Most of us are passionate about our ECs and do them because we want to, not because of the admissions team. I think that’s where we got offended.

Given the constant influx of “ZOMG what can I do to make HYPSM like me?” threads all over this site, I highly doubt that.

I mean, I guess I was speaking for myself.

I have agree with Heather
Most people, though not all, have ulterior motives. It’s just that OP was honest with hers.
