A few of my colleges are probably not going to give me an alumni interview, and I understand their “availability” policy. Would it be helpful if I send a short e-mail giving some insight into myself that is not listed on my application, to perhaps examine my character/personality in another medium? As I understand it most alumni interviews are used to judge the applicant’s human personality-- outgoingness and enthusiasm about attending the college. If I reflect a similar tone with presenting myself in a different light would that be beneficial? I know they are busy during this time of year so I was planning to send a short e-mail to my regional AOs.
Most schools have moved away from evaluative meetings, meaning they have no impact on the admission decision. I would not bother emailing the AO unless you’ve had a major award/accomplishment since you submitted your application.
If the email says something new and truly germane to your application, then send it. But if you just want to share more of your personality and reiterate your love for the school, I’d skip it.
Sounds great, thank you guys! I was kinda of thinking the same way about my intentions, so this just confirms it.
I would not send such an email. Admissions officers are swamped and are absolutely not looking for additional essays to read. Alumni interviews have no meaningful impact on admissions.
