No Interview?

What if you don't get an interview? Is all hope lost? The people in my school who applied got an interview and I didn't... so I'm a little worried.

Same here. Worried…:(

I’m having a similar situation with Cornell because my fee waiver hasn’t yet been processed, so that may be something to look into. Otherwise, the alumni group/club may just be so busy as to not have contacted everyone yet. I’d wait until probably the first full week of February to actually branch out to contact someone, since the Harvard site said something about interviews being conducted throughout that month anyway.

No. It’s very possible that you’re assigned a different interviewer. Not every school is assigned one single interviewer. It has nothing to do with what admissions thinks of you, because interviewers are not pre-sorted, or screened.

Interviews are just another way to breathe life into your application. Not a major factor and definitely won’t hurt you if you don’t have the opportunity to interview. Some tens of thousands of applicant are applying,so they can’t possibly interview them all!

Best of luck!

thanks everyone! I didn’t submit my SAT scores yet since I’m gonna take my last one this January, so could that be a factor also that I don’t have an interview?

Interviewers can be assigned to interview someone whose required test scores are not all in yet, so your pending January test score is not the reason. It is possible that you have been assigned an interviewer and he/she has not tried to contact you yet. Some interviewers are not very prompt about making the first contact.

The RD interview season will not be over for about a month or two, so there is plenty of time.

The lack of a local interview is not prejudicial to your application, for there is no requirement of a local alumni interview and some a regions are not able to find an interviewer for every applicant.

BTW, in my region the goal is to assign different interviewers to applicants from the same school.

my interviewer told me today that their reports are due the coming friday

@canadian2013: What your interviewer said is slightly misleading…or he/she misinterpreted something in the interviewer info packs. It is true that subcommittees begin meeting this week. However, the subcommittee meetings are staggered. That is, only applications from certain regions are being discussed. If an interviewer is interviewing applicants from a region that doesn’t meet until a later date, the reports are most certainly not imminently due. Also, admissions only recommends that interview reports be submitted by subcommittee meetings; it’s not the final deadline. Full committee begins in March, and interview reports will still be accepted through the beginning of full committee…
