Like say in my situation..

Swarthmore has been and remains to be my top choice because
1. theres actually a chance I might be able to get in
2. their quantitative econ dept is the best there is (from what I can tell)

BUT..
Being the dummy I am, I neglected to see if Swarthmore wants interviews until well after the deadline.. so now Im kind of fudged.
And Im reluctant to apply RD II simply because I just find the whole binding aspect kind of scary and foreboding.
I know Swat values commitment greatly so I was thinking of sending them an email or phone call or something (IDK, really) to explain to them my predicament (idk how, its all my fault).
Would the email at least slightly help gloss over the fact that it looks like Im not really comitted to Swat?
Is there someone I can call/email now during the holiday season to see if I can get an interview?

Answers/comments would be truly appreiated!

I doubt you are the first to not realize that you have to request the interview early, since many “peer” institutions operate in a different way.

If you feel worried, sure, send a short note saying that you are sorry you missed the opportunity. But I would not worry about it. And don’t do EDII if you don’t feel completely comfortable doing it.

haha, whoops meant to write ED II.

Ok guess Ill just send an email (should I wait dyou think, until the 5th?)

Anyways, thanks for the response! :)

Hello! Current Swat freshman here, and like you, I didn’t see the early interview deadline, so I didn’t end up getting one. Swat actually wasn’t my top choice - had I known now what I did last year, it definitely would have been. But anyways, my strategy was to apply to as many schools as possible RD and see where I’d get into, since most of the schools I was applying to were ivies that didn’t care about demonstrated interest. But my college adviser warned me that Swat cared a lot about it, I was obviously concerned, since I had failed to get an interview. I was still able to visit the college, but I knew I would be up against many students who hadn’t made the same careless mistake I had.
Needless to say, I got in! So I don’t think they’ll assume you don’t care about them if you don’t get an interview - I think they’re used to it. Although I will say, although I never officially interviewed, when a Swarthmore representative came to visit my school, I was the only student who attended the meeting, so I spent about an hour talking to her about Swat. At the end of our conversation, she handed me her business card, and I realized she was the person who would be reviewing my application! It turns out that the admissions officers who will be reading for your location will also likely be visiting your location, too. So keep that in mind!
