No laundry lists, but...

I am attaching an activities sheet to my applications. I know the Adcoms dislike laundry lists of every activity a student has ever participated in and are only interested in the things that they really made a difference in and will continue to pursue.
However, if I only use those activities, it makes me look like I suddenly did everything in my junior and senior year and that's not true. I did probably the same amound of ECs all through out high school but my focus changed from drama/sports/dance to politics/environment. however, if I only use the latter and that makes my application look very lopsided.
ahhhh!! Does anyone have any suggestions??

Just report all of your ecs, and report them honestly. There's no need to make excuses for a change of focus because I assume your essays will address your interests.

I have a question about these lists too. Should I just list the activities and put the basic stuff like hours per week, or should I also describe a lot of them too?

by describing i just mean clarifying exactly what something is and what the purpose/role is

A brief description would definitely be smart if they're not familiar with the activity. For example, one of my activities was LEO Club, which nobody is familiar with, so I always had to put "junior Lions Club." Another of my activities was Renaissance Committee, which is something I definitely had to explain (it had nothing to do with art or history).

I'm making a "Brag Sheet" which lists my activities throughout highschool...I listed them in categories (Career-Related being first, Community service second, internships, and last hobbies) All together its 2 pages spread out..I stated the activity and a brief description.

parikhs: do schools accept lists like those, i had no knowledge of that. where on the application is there room for a brag sheet?

Well for NYU online application they have a section where you can upload extra files. Thats where I'm uploading my "Brag Sheet" or titled "Activity Sheet". If you're doing a hardcopy, you can just print it out and attach it to the application. However, some schools specifically mention that they DON'T want a resume or activity sheet. It depends on the school, so make sure you check that.
