I know someone on here already posted they received the Dean's Scholarship. Does that mean those who didn't get any offers with their acceptance letter won't be receiving one?</p>
<p>Esgee, my son did not get merit offerings with his EA letter. It wasn't until the RD mail went out that he got his scholarships from them. That was last year. As always, call Fordham and ask what their policy is. Let them know that you are interested in the school and that merit money will be an issue if that is the case.</p>
<p>agreed. Sometimes they send them out with acceptance letters. Sometimes a little extra work on your part showing high interest in attending (presuming you are otherwise clearly qualified for scholarships there) will help. They may focus on students they think are more likely than not are going to accept Fordham's offer of admission. I don't know.</p>
<p>I'm really stressing about this, I definately need some good aide. I'm wondering what some of the qualifications are as far as SAT scores. Mine are in their 75 percentile I believe, but I'm not sure if they're good enough for their top scholarships.</p>
<p>Dont stress about it Claire. Call them and tell them your high interest in attending and that scholarship money would really help you make that decision final. Further, apply for financial aid with the CSS and FAFSA right away. </p>

<p>esgee, I found it on the site and it gives some qualifications. It just says "top 10% of their graduating class and scores within the top 5-7% of test takers." That's a little vague, but I'm hoping I get it.</p>
<p>I hate to speculate here friends....or I might get my head chopped off by people closer to the admissions office than me.....but this topic was discussed in another thread awhile back...and I suggested then from anecdotal reports (students at Fordham) that the general level of minimum qualifications was around 1400 SATs. Then someone corrected me that sometimes they go lower than that. Of course, this year is exceptional with the economic troubles and I dont know if that affects anything or not in the financial packages at Fordham. Maybe not. But in any regard, I think the CSS is required even for scholarship recipients and thus you may as well get them in soon and send along the FAFSA right away. Because Fordham may be generous with you in grant money that is very similar in amounts to a scholarship, though obviously without the prestige. And I also don't know if they might offer you a late scholarship during the RD cycle. So stay in touch with them, ask questions and inform them of your intentions to matriculate at Fordham if they can help you. Obviously with both of your outstanding records, I think you stand a very good chance of getting something from them, particularly a healthy financial aid package presuming you dont have a ridiculous EFC from FAFSA because of family income or wealth. </p>
<p>Admissions is likely (my speculation) trying to gauge how many scholarships they expect to grant in the RD session with kids with similar or even higher scores than you. In other words, they dont give out all the money in the EA session and leave nothing for RD. </p>
<p>Its a great school and loads of fun. Its hard to convey that here on this site. But there is plenty of challenge at Fordham for very bright students, believe me. I have no idea what goes into their decision making on scholarships as every application for admission is reviewed initially for scholarship potential. And I am sure some of that is targeted for students they think are more likely than not to accept an offer of admission. If they think you might go elsewhere that diminishes the chances. At least that is how I would guess it works. </p>
<p>But again, if you need financial assistance, of course merit aid is the most prestigious, but if its grant money, it has the same exact impact on your tuition bill: its a big help! So apply for financial aid right away with your CSS and FAFSA and see if that helps.</p>

<p>I guess I'm just confused about why I wasn't offered merit fin. aid--this may sound petty but I'm looking at other people who have been posting stats and many of them with similar or lower stats received scholarships. Just to clarify, I'm in no way saying that any of them deserved them more than me--I'm sure every one of them deserved it. Guess I'm just a little disappointed and confused as to why I didn't qualify for one when academically, everything seems to fit. </p>

<p>My D was accepted today and her letter did not mention money. I called the financial aid office and was told packages would be mailed out first week of February, and that scholarship money would be included in that mailing...</p>
<p>My D did receive notification of a Dean's Scholarship with her acceptance -- minimum of $10,000/year. Her SAT Math/CR is 1450 and her unweighted GPA is 4.0, weighted 4.9.</p>

I called the admissions person listed on my acceptance letter and she said that if it wasn't on your letter you weren't given money in the EA pool. They will consider you for more scholarship money in the RD pool though. So have hope :]!</p>
<p>My son got EA acceptance but money later....it wasn't enough for us, would have left us with over 1/2 tuition plus R &B. I think 12,000 was the total in grants/scholarships and then the stafford loan and work study of 2,800 which didn't make a difference to either of us. W.Study is for some pocket money for the student usually and isn't guaranteed.
It wasn't my son's first choice so after 1 call, we didn't persue it.
On a side note, one mom told me her son got more money as the semesters went on, different scholarships, but I told her I couldn't count on that, it had to be workable from day one.
He was told 2 years ago, that a 1400 seemed the average for the most aid or possible invitation to the honors college, but nothing is in stone. He had 100 points lower than that but a strong GPA.</p>
<p>A few year's back my older daughter also received a scholarship but it wasn't even close to making Fordham a real option for her.....we're hoping that it will be easier for Daughter 2.</p>
<p>I was talking to my friend who graduated last year and he said he got money from Fordham weeks after his EA acceptance.</p>
