no more quarters

Has anyone seen the washer/dryers that take student ID's, debit or credit cards? They are fabulous. I wonder what schools have them and how I can get them at my school!

They also send you an email when a washer/dryer is available. Or when your wash is done! No more waiting around, I could start a load and not worry about it until I get the email.

I think all schools should have this type of setup in the dorms!

My school (Southern Illinois University - Carbondale) has them. Ours don't email us though, that'd be a nice addition.

I was watching Discovery Channel a few weeks ago, and they showed a vending machine made by grad students at UCSD ( I think).
It had voice recognition, facial recognition, hand scan, etc. It also took regular money like a regular vending machine. It even had an online ordering system. You could buy a pop from your room over the internet, and a robot would actually deliver it to you.
It was pretty awesome.

here:

We've had the id-accepting machines for awhile, I think, but over the summer, Richmond is upgrading to the machines that email you. Laundry is being added to room and board.

Ours doesn't have that kind of technology but that's alright with me. We also don't pay for our laundry! We have unlimited access!:)

We have the ID payment for laundry (and vending machines) at the University of NH. No emails though

Ours take coins or ID cards.

USC has ones in our apartment that take your student id (which has discretionary money on it)...so no more quarters are needed

some even have them hooked up to a computer and bill you directly!

Our washers and dryers are free. and we have a nifty site (<a href="http://www.laundryview.com%5B/url%5D">www.laundryview.com</a>) to see if there is machines available and if not how long it will be until the next one is :)

ucsd has that

my school will have free laundry.

i think my school U of I makes me pay w/ quarters to get us ready for the real world. but thats just what i think, another part of me just says we're too damn poor to afford decent washers and dryers

My school uses ID. They give $10,000/year to every on-campus student somehwere in the room and board fee. Who could possibly do $10,000 woth of laundry, seriously?

Some of them at my school take student ID cards as long you have Tech Express on it...same with some of the vending machines.

Ours don't do the email thing, but I think it'd be pretty awesome if they emailed you when your clothes were done. Oh well.

I wish ours ran on quarters, it would make life easier. We have to buy a $5 laundry card and keep money loaded on it.

What USC has a machine that takes ID cards? wtheck! I didn't know that.

The one I had in my dorm took laundry cards, and you added money with your credit card.

and at Stanford washing is free (well, free after you pay $50K to attend). See <a href="http://daily.stanford.edu/article/2007/3/7/freeLaundryShapesWashingHabits%5B/url%5D">http://daily.stanford.edu/article/2007/3/7/freeLaundryShapesWashingHabits</a></p>

We pay $1.25 for washing, and ditto for drying at my college. So expensive! Takes IDs and quarters. Not networked though.
