No package yet

I got an acceptance online but didn’t get anything in the mail yet. Does this mean there is no chance for scholarship.
stats: 32 act
gpa: 4.0
aps and ecs

When was your acceptance posted online? If you haven’t gotten your official letter yet you won’t know if you got a scholarship or not.

@newyorkmom1

I don’t understand the question. If your child just got accepted, it usually takes 3-10 days to get the letter. Patience, it will come. With those stats probably $30K or $32K, and probably the latter.

My daughter didn’t receive her letter in the mail until 2-3 weeks after she logged in to see her online acceptance. The scholarship will be part of the acceptance letter you receive.

thank you for your posts. i was a little nervous because everyone she knew already received their package and scholarship notification. We received it today. She got the premier scholarship 30K. so happy. she would not have been able to attend without it.

@newyorkmom1

That’s great. I wish I had been right about the $32K, but I guess in the big picture of college costs that isn’t too big a deal. I guess about 3%. Wow, amazing that $8,000 can only be a 3% difference. Did she get invited to the Honors Program too?

@fallenchemist I just got accepted into Tulane this afternoon, I am super excited! However, whether or not I go there depends on how much money I receive. I go to a very competitive school, and I am currently taking 5 AP classes and I took 2 last year. We don’t do weighted GPA’s, so my current GPA is a 3.6. I didn’t do as well as I’d hoped on the SAT, and I received a 1970. I do a lot of extracurriculars and sports. I applied SCEA. I realize you receive a lot of questions like this, and this is a very difficult question to answer, but could you give me your approximation on how much money you think I would be able to receive in terms of merit scholarships with stats like that? thanks so much.

@tulane555

I can only be honest, even though it isn’t what you are hoping to hear. But I don’t think you will get a merit scholarship. But, fortunately for you I don’t decide and I have been wrong. I hope for your sake I am. Let us know.

@fallenchemist do you know of any students who have taken the SAT after acceptance and have then been able to receive merit aid? is that possible?

@tulane555

Yes. A few years ago they used to do it routinely, now I think they are a bit more reluctant to open that door too far and get overwhelmed. The change has to be really significant. I can’t even really guess if, for example, 2050 would be enough, but if I had to say I would think more like 2100 would be a minimum to get them to reconsider. JMO.

She was invited to the honors program. We will visit during the accepted students timeframe. And yes I wish it were 32k but still super excited for the 30k!!!

@newyorkmom1

Of course! That is so great. I asked about the honors program because Tulane has two special weekends for people invited to that program called Top Scholars weekend. It is worth planning for and attending if she can. Usually one session in mid-late March and the other very early in April, but it can vary. She checks in Sunday morning, stays overnight with a current student, and spends most of Monday at Tulane. You are with her for the first few hours, as they welcome everyone, talk about Tulane and the program, do a campus tour, and have lunch. One program they will focus on will be Tulane Scholars, which is something she might want to pay special attention to. Then you split up, but there are sessions especially for parents as well. The students get to talk to advisors, meet with faculty, and actually register for classes, even though most have not officially chosen Tulane yet. But it is pretty cool, and they are actually registering ahead of many current students! Of course on Monday they get to sit in on some classes.

That is the best time to visit if it works in your/her schedule. For those that are pretty sure Tulane is for them, they can often meet a potential roommate as well. Just wanted to put that on your radar. As soon as I hear anything about exact dates and the program (what I described has been the program for years, but of course they can always change it!) I will post a thread on here.

fallen chemist thank you so much for pointing this out. I just reread the letter and yes they do offer the tulane top scholars weekend. It will be held on march 6&7 and again on april 3&4. I completely missed this. I can start shopping for air now :}

@newyorkmom1

Oh, that is great that they gave the dates. No one had mentioned that yet. Wow, March 6-7 is earlier than I remember, not that it matters. Kind of nice to have it early if that works out. Usually nice weather too, as is early April. The heat hasn’t usually started cranking up yet.

just got a small white envelope in mail. that cant be good news. didn’t check on line

Hmmm, I could be wrong but I don’t think Tulane sends envelopes for deferrals, do they?

@fallenchemist They do send them, although I’m not sure how envelope size compares with acceptance packages.

Hi! I am in a similar boat. I still haven’t gotten my formal admissions letter yet, but I did get a Honors Program letter. The Top Scholars letter says “Congratulations on being admitted as one of our top scholarship recipients!” Does anyone know if this means the Presidential Scholarship?? Thanks for all of your help!!

@lvaidya

That would 99.5% sure mean either the Presidential ($32,000/year) or the Premier ($30,000/year). Your admission letter must have gotten misplaced or misdelivered. When they are back after New Year, ask them to resend it.
