has anyone at Cal ever received a "no pass"in a clas?

Yes. All CalSO counselors have to take a CalSO class for their training. There have been NP's given out before and those who received were given NP's were discharged from their CalSO position.

even when they made up the "no passes?" will getting a "no pass" barr me from being eligible to do research? for URAP, you have to have at least a 3.3, and a pass/no pass doesnt count towrad your gpa. do you know the answer to this?

I'm really close to getting a NP in one of the Near Eastern Studies classes I'm taking. I don't know why I decided to take this class, but I have no interest at all. It doesn't have anything to do with my major, will a NP hurt me at all?

it shouldn't. the class i might get a no pass in is part of my major, and i talked to the advisor and she said one no pass, as long as i make it up and do other vital things (research, etc) shouldnt really hurt me badly for grad school. this is my first semester at berkeley, and i learned the hard way to not take 4 upper divs if you want all A's or something close to it.

NP doesn't show up on your transcript nor does it factor into your GPA.

calgirl21: Did you not listen when they said that the first semester should be taken easier since we are "adjusting"? I know transfer students who mixed their courses to avoid this situation.

NP doesn't show up on your transcript??!?!?! Are you sure? So the only penalty is that you don't get the units? Wow, I'm not stressing anymore.

Maybe I'm wrong...I'm searching on the registrar's website right now

Oh thanks.

omg, that would be TERRIFIC if that was true

Does someone with prior experience know? The UCB OR is not providing much info.

Wait, what are you saing?

huh?...............................

I lost track of what you guys were asking. What is your question?

Does a NP show up on your transcript and does it affect you in any way if the class doesn't have anything to do with your major?

Does a Pass/Not Pass grade affect my grade-point average?

A course in which a grade of Pass (P) or Not Pass (NP) is received is not counted into your GPA (similarly, graduate courses graded on a Satisfactory [S] or Unsatisfactory basis).
A course in which a grade of P or S is received is counted toward degree requirements. A course in which a grade of NP or U is received does not count toward degree requirements.

It will be noted that you did not pass a class. Now, how much this has an effect on whatever happens depends on the circumstances of the not pass and what you're trying to do. Law schools count it as a fail, whereas graduate schools might vary, and i'm not sure how med schools do it, or business schools. I"m not sure what they do if you retake and pass it later.

i got a "pass" everyone. thanks again!!!

Great, congrats.
