I recently received my financial aid packet for my school and there was no pell grant included.
My EFC is 0, my parents adjusted gross income is under 30k a year, the cost of attendance is 28,000 a year, and I will be a full time student, I am the only child in my family in college in a household of 2.
From everything I have read I should be receiving a full amount pell grant but am receiving nothing, do you think this was a mistake?
Was your FAFSA selected for verification…and did you complete that process if yes?
With an EFC of $0…you should have received a $6000 Pell Grant and a $5500 Direct Loan.
Was your FAFSA submitted on time? When did you submit it?
Call the college…and ask.
Did you apply to only one college? Are you a new freshman or a returning student?
Yes it was selected for verification and I completed the process.
I received the $5500 loan but no pell grant.
I originally submitted my FAFSA in October, my college had me go back and make a change to it earlier this month to link my parent’s IRS data for the verification. I completed the verification process earlier this month as well.
Yes I only applied to one college and I am a new freshman.
If you only updated with the DRT at the start of April, it’s possible there is something “off”. Or that it hasn’t updated yet.
Contact the college first thing tomorrow morning.
Is there any chance your parents did an IRA or TSA rollover in 2016?
No they didn’t do an IRA or TSA rollover.
Is there any chance that the tax return has additional income on it?
Anyway…you need to call the school. Maybe the verification process hasn’t been totally completed yet. That is possible.
Do your parents own a business? Did you verify all the numbers on the FAFSA to be sure they’re correct and entered in the parents’ section, not the students?
You can’t verify the numbers from the DRT without calling the school. The numbers are hidden from the filer for security reasons.
You can however check that the FAFSA was fully signed and submitted after you updated it.
When you filed your FAFSA, did the Student Aid Report indicate that you would receive a Pell Grant? If so, the issue is on the school end. If not, you may have checked that you already have a bachelor’s degree on your FAFSA (in which case, you wouldn’t be awarded Pell).
Call the school and ask. That is the best way to find out.
