Yes, everything paid. However, I would be getting a refund of 1500 if they gave me the correct Cal Grant. Right now, myfinaid says I will get Cal Grant A but that is wrong because the California Aid Commission said I would be awarded B. I tried asking the financial aid people to change it to the correct Cal Grant but they said it would do so automatically in weeks. It has been months now and nothing happened. These financial aid people makes me mad. Everytime I call, it tells me that their lines are filled up and that I should email them. I emailed them a week ago and yet no response. When I can actually get through on the phone, i have to hold for 40 minutes. This is ridiculous!!!

I am not sure if it is paid yet or what happened. When I go on myfinaid, it says that it is not paid yet. But when I look at my quick statement, all of my aids are paid. I am not sure if the amount paid includes cal grant a or not. I did not accept any loans yet and I need a refund to buy my books. If they award me cal grant b which I am supposed to receive, i will get a refund to buy my books. Did anyone get cal grant b at all or did they just
give everyone cal grant a so they wouldn’t lose more money?

What is the date of your quick statement? Someone mentioned in another thread that her quick statement said the same thing as yours, but her’s was dated June 18th. What about your’s?

If they do promise to choose the one that is most beneficial then cal grant b is the one that would be best. Why do they keep me on cal grant a?!?! I need more money ;(

that’s not quite true, I only got like 2k from cal grant b last year but 11k this year, you might get less money this year but they know what they’re doing… most of the time

According to MyFinAid, my Cal Grant A and Federal Perkins Loan haven’t been paid, so my total paid aid currently amounts to $4,449. On Bear Facts it says I only owe $144.75, but I know for sure that my quick statement was much more than $4,449 + $144.75 before. Did they just forget to update the status of my Cal Grant and Perkins Loan?

Also, has anyone received the additional money that we were supposed to get for SHIP yet? I should have just waived out of it if I knew I wouldn’t get any extra aid.

My EFT is still not active as well, even though I signed up well over a month ago. Will I have to wait and pick up my check from the financial aid office if they don’t activate it in time? I really wanted to go buy my books soon =/.

@aeboi: You acutally get more money even though cal grant b pays only 1500k that first year. Berkeley is required to make up the amount that you lost by choosing cal grant b over cal grant a. They make up this amount by increasing your undergraduate scholarship. In subsequent years after your first year, you will receive 11k for cal grant b. This means that in the end, cal grant b is the better option compared to a. For this reason, I want cal grant b.

As a side question… is there any reason why I would get the 11k for Cal Grant B my first year? That’s what I see on the Cal Grant website… it used to be 1.5k but they changed it…

So I managed to contact them and they won’t allow me to switch to Cal Grant B Is that even possible? They state that it is their policy to give the most “advantageous” award which is A since it awards 41k for 4 years while B awards only 37k. It is true that you would receive more money when receving B since they would increase the institutional scholarship to make up the difference between A and B. However, this case is only possible for people who qualified for B only due to low GPA and did not qualify for Cal Grant A. Since when was it a bad thing to be smart Is their any way I can get my Cal Grant B back?

Well based on the response I got, it seems to be. If you have a high GPA, then you qualify for both Cal Grants. However, they would pick Cal Grant A for you since it would be the most “advantageous” for you. Yeah, I don’t think so! It seems that A would be more advatageous for Berkeley since they wouldn’t have to whip out additional dollars to increase your package. If you got a low GPA, you would only qualify for B only so they would have to give you B.
