Hello,
I submitted an application around the
seventh of November, and was accepted about 3 weeks ago. I was thinking I would be competitive for scholarships (36 ACT, 4.6 GPA), but have heard nothing. Also, I submitted some recommendations via fax, but just checked and they aren't showing up on the application page. Should I give up hope, or am I jumping the gun?

Fender with a 36 a 36!!! And you applied moderately early. Ughhhhhhhh… oh Fender… you are definitely going to get something as long as your not a delinquent! But, I am just guessing. Better call or email OAFA or wait for MD mom or Awesome to give their thoughts. But, OAFA is faster and certain.

Also, my teacher recommendations were received along with my transcripts. The transcripts showed up on the Pitt App page early. However, almost three weeks later my teacher recommendation showed up.

I would not be too concerned as I didn’t hear back until over a month and half after I applied. Your tests scores are sure to stand out.

One of my sons lors showed up 6 weeks after the date they put as receiving it…after he was admitted. His essay never showed up, but when scholarships started getting announced, I called and they confirmed it was in his file. I would just call OAFA to make sure all your stuff is in your file for scholarship consideration. I wouldn’t give up hope just yet.

I think they also review applications for scholarship in the order they were submitted. I’m betting they got a lot of October ones and just haven’t seen yours yet. Also, I heard somewhere on here that they only review for scholarships once a week, so it can be a slow process. I applied in mid-September, and didn’t hear until early november, so I would give it some time.

I think someone found out last year that the scholarship committee only meets on Fridays. This can make the process much longer. Additionally, people can be considered for scholarships as long as they submit before Jan. 15 (that’s what it used to be at least) so it could take a while for the committee to sort through ALL the eligible scholarship applications.

Additionally: while your scores and stats seem, to us, to be scholarship definitive, you also want to consider the other factors: ethnicity, IS vs OOS, major, etc. I think we somewhat determined that there is a maximum number of scholarship types that Pitt gives to each state, so even if you’re a stand-out, if other stand-out people from your state applied before you, it does make it harder for you to get one.

Thanks for your responses!! You guys definitely helped to calm my nerves a little. I’m a bit spastic.

But anyway, I did call up OAFA, and they said that my recommendations were in my file. So all’s good!

As usual, I worry too much and you guys were right. Just received my full tuition today!!!

Congrats!!!

Congratulations! I hope you choose Pitt, though OSU is a fine school as well.

Congratulations! We’re in Ohio too…my S prefers Pitt to tOSU.

Yay! Congrats FenderZ!
