No shot... but still...

Alrighty. I'm making a chances thread for Harvard. No clue why. Maybe because I had an appt. with the college guy at school and got an app. from Harvard today... lol.

I'll start with some explaining. I moved in the MIDDLE of junior year. Any shot I had at being president of my clubs went away with that. Along with my parent's separation and divorce being worked out after what like 10 years? But that's nothing new for Americans right?

GPA UW: 3.6-3.7 (yeah I know)
GPA W: 4.4 I think... maybe higher after this semester so like 4.6?
ACT: 32--> 33 in October? Maybe even a 34 but probably not.
SAT: in October. I'm guessing 2200-2250
SAT II: 750 US History, 770 Biology M, 620 Math II<--- retaking!!

Freshman year- 6 Honors courses, 2 regular, plus 2 summer school
Sophomore- 4 AP, 4 honors, plus 2 summer school
Junior 1st semester- 5 AP, 4 honors
Junior 2nd (after moving)- 2 AP, 1 IB, 1 honors, 2 regular classes

Senior schedule:
At University- Philosophy, English, History.
For second semester most likely: English, Comparative Government, Computer Science

At Math and Science Center- AP Physics C, AP Calculus BC, Organic Chemistry switches to Biochemistry, Evolution of Scientific Thought switches to Bio-Ethics

4 AP tests sophomore year, 6 junior year, 6-7 planned for senior year.
Accepted to magnet program- math and science center of the area after moving
Accepted to dual enrollment program at the university in town

Extracurricular:
Lots of Band- school band (section leader), university band (solo clarinet), Sousa band, Civic band, Jazz band at university, pit for the musical, WSMA Honors Band (state), State Solo and Ensemble (got three golds/1s), Private Lessons since 8th grade

Volunteering at the Hospital both in old town and new since freshman year
Volunteering at a community center- tutoring probably
National Honors Society
There's a club in my new school called Community Service Club, which I will probably join.

Science Olympiad since freshman year. 3rd in state at Protein Modeling. Am continuing here.
Science Bowl

Cross Country and Tennis (just JV though)

Honors?: Section leader for clarinet since 7th grade, Solo Clarinet at the university, WSMA Honors Band, State Solo and Ensemble, AP Scholar w/ Honor (10th grade), AP Scholar w/ Distinction and National AP Scholar (11th), National Honors Society. Yeah, I'm stretching this out.

Yes: I have absolutely no leadership positions. I'm sorry.

I don’t think you have too good of a shot. No leadership positions, and low GPA. Scores are competitive but not amazing. Other than band and volunteering, it seems you have few other commitments.

I know there are very many colleges that would be ecstatic to accept you though.

Like? I’m pretty clueless as to which colleges might even give me a decent shot.

I think Gryffon answered pretty well. The only exception that I see, you give no indication if you have a hook; first gen, URM, regional, etc. Those details could have an impact but your scores and GPA are low. GPA would be hard to improve at this point but you could certainly try and raise your SAT/ACT scores.

As for school recommendations, CCers need to know more about what you are looking for. What region? School size? What are you looking to major in and any EC’s you hope to continue with? Urban/Rural? Other criteria which are important to you?

D was very specific with her majors, EC’s and unwilling to go beyond 3 hours from home.
Those details helped up to narrow down the schools to visit and then which of those to which she should apply.

East coast. Science major. Small-medium private. Want to continue with music. Urban. Also, preferably something I’ve heard of. I know, prestige doesn’t matter. But still.

Tufts is a good match.

^ I thought of the same one. S just graduated from there. They offer dual degree w/ NEC if you are really serious about continuing music [Dual Degrees - Office of Undergraduate Admissions - Tufts University](Tufts University)

Due to size and location, what about Brandeis.

Those are the ones that my kids looked at that fit your criteria.

Hmm… I’ll look into those a little. Thanks.

Oh and by small to medium I meant 10-20K.
