hmm unfortunately i got an email saying i get 0 money from stafford loan this semester. i hope duke helps me out some. i doubt it tho, cuz the endowment definitely took the hit. is my disqualification for stafford linked to the economic crash? wondering if others got denied this year too.

The only way you don’t qualify for a Stafford is if you have merit money that equals/exceeds the cost of attendance. Otherwise, you will be eligible for at least an unsubsidized Stafford: $5500 sub/unsub (up to 3500 sub, depending on need) freshman; 6500 sub/unsub (up to 4500 sub, depending on need) sophomore; 7500 sub/unsub (up to 5500 sub, depending on need) junior/senior.

Another way you can be denied a Stafford is if you did not make satisfactory academic progress required to keep federal financial aid.

Is there any possibility you could you have maxed out? The maximum cumulative Stafford for a dependent undergrad is $31,000.

Oh … is “this semester” summer semester??? Your annual limit is in effect for the entire year. If you’ve already reached your annual max, you don’t get any summer loans (assuming Duke is a fall-summer aid year).
