No studio assignment yet

Hi everyone! I've actually lurked here for a year but just recently started posting. One of my D's accepted schools has not given her a studio assignment. One of her friends was accepted at the same school and contacted by a teacher there and told she was in his studio. My D has emailed two of the teachers at the school but has been told that they haven't finished assignments and nobody has given her an estimate as to when that might be done. She was told by one of them that if she was hitting up against another schools deadline, to call the school and tell them.

I know it's a good school with good faculty, but she has only met a couple of the teachers there and is the type of person who needs familiarity. She has been through a situation in the past with a good, but unfamiliar teacher, that nearly resulted in her giving up music altogether, so the teacher is very important to her.

So how long do we wait? Do we ask the other schools to extend their May 1 deadline while we wait on this school's assignment?

TIA

I would call the school that you are waiting on. Tell them that you need to make a decision in the next week or so and can't make that decision unless you know whose studio you will be assigned to. Different schools deal with studio assignments differently. When my son was dealing with this issue recently at 2 different schools he was working with the dean at both schools. That might be a place for you to start. Call the admissions office and tell them you want to talk to whomever is in charge of studio assignments. I would not make a committment to a school without this vital piece of information. You can even word it this way - "My daughter is very interested in attending your school, but I don't feel comfortable sending an enrollment deposit until we know her studio assignment."
