Nominations to two academies?

I'm interested in both USNA and USMA. How does it work if I want to get nominated for both ones? Do I apply for both to one Congressmen, or do I have to apply to seperate people for the different nominations?

For Congressional nominations - By law you can only apply for a nomination from your Congressman (the one who represents your district). You may also apply to both of your US Senators. You may also apply to the Vice President. Everyone is allowed to apply to these 4 sources. (There are other nomination sources as well, but if you were entitled to one, you’d know about it already).

Some Members Of Congress (MOC) allow you to only apply for one academy nomination, others ask you to rank them in order of preference, and some others have no restrictions whatsoever.

If your MOC allows you to apply for a nomination for more than one academy, go for it. Although some MOC will communicate with other to avoid duplicate nominations, it is not uncommon for a single MOC to nominate a candidate to more than one academy, nor is it uncommon for two MOC to give duplicate noms to a candidate (for the same academy).

I was thinking of maybe applying for USMA to one Congressman and one Senator, and for USNA to the other two, but it looks like I don’t have to. The thing I’m wondering about, though, is that my Congresswoman wants applicants to write about why they want to go to that specific academy. Am I allowed to write two essays to her?

Don’t write 2 essays since he will read both be funny.
What you may want to do is to talk about why you like both of them. Why do you have to pick one, right?
My congressman asked us to rank the academy choices in 1,2,3,4 fashion. So yes you can pick both, although I ONLY checked one box as I only wanted to go to USMA.

Apply to all three for all academies to which you will apply.
Many MOC’s will have you rank your preference, some will ask you to choose.
Surely, you have a preference now so in your essay write about your first choice. You can also include that you are willing to accept a nomination to another academy and the reasons why. So, it will be ONE application for each MOC.

Understand that each MOC operates under their own specific protocol. If an issue is not addressed clearly on the application or website then call the office and ask.
