My daughter is a Senior at SLU. SLU is very work-hard and play-hard. Sports do play a role, I think 40% of the kids participate in either varsity or club sports. It does have a prep school culture to a degree where kids are athletic and self confident. With that said there are a lot of smart kids who work hard academically 5 days a week, and fill their weekends with sports and parties. You can get a really good education here and its very well connected if you are from the east coast. They mean it when they say the alumni network is strong, people from SLU look out for each other. My daughter did club sports, lived in a theme house, but also has a 3.7 cum GPA and she works super hard academically. She entered SLU with a 29 ACT and a 3.3 from a hard boarding school, so SLU seemed easier than what she went through in high school. I would not say she is a partier but she has fun and works hard. She has a big group of friends who value studying most nights but letting off steam on the weekends.
