The title is obviously cliches, but I am trying to figure out what kind of undergraduate majors I should consider if I plan on going into business.

I know there are many undergraduate business schools, but I heard if you don't attend the the top 3 or 4 (Wharton, Hass, Stern...etc.) then you would probably be better off attending some other college and worrying about your business degree in graduate school. I don't know whether I'd get into the top undergraduate business schools, but more than that, I don't even know if I want to go into undergraduate business. I always thought business is something you worry about at graduate school.

So anyways my question is this, what are some good majors if you plan to go into the business field, but you are not at an undergraduate business school? I know economics obviously, but any other ideas?

How would a poli sci major at Northwestern be if I wanted to go into business? Sorry for intruding on your thread, but your question applies to me as well.

Anything that gives you a good quantative background and good written/communication skills....
Math/English double comes to mind.

Any more suggestions? (Bump)

I'd probably think about what courses would be helpful, too. Make sure you get the math that you'd normally take as an undergrad business student: Calc and statistics come to mind. An intro accounting course would be quite useful if your school offers it. Defintely take the two intro econ courses even if you aren't majoring in economics (speaking as an econ prof!!).

Thanks ihateCA and Econ Prof.

I am a junior now and looking down the road, so naturally I don't which courses will be offered at the college I attend.

Anyways, how would a political science major be? (like lemonhead mentioned)

Also, how big of a factor is it whe you apply to business school what you majored in at the undergrad level?

And then my final question is, how helpful is an economics degree if you don't go to graduate school? I realize economics is the most popular major at most schools, so I assume there are bunch in the job market, so what kind of oppurtunties and jobs does it open if I don't get an MBA later in graduate school?

Thanks!
