Non-Greek, Preppy Colleges?

I am not interested in Greek life at all, but I do want a preppy college. I like Georgetown, but I was wondering if there were any others! Thanks!

Yale and Rice have the residential college system as opposed to Greek life. Yale is preppy. Rice is more southern/laid back.

NESCAC liberal arts colleges are often regarded as preppy, but many of them have banned Greek organizations. Examples include Middlebury, Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, Williams, Amherst, and Connecticut College.

Boston College

The Preppy Handbook included Georgetown as a Runners Up. Though an older publication, some of the listed colleges may still resemble each other:

Yale, btw, does have fraternities.

This is a question out of meme curiousity, but why do people seek “preppy” colleges?

College of the Holy Cross

Villanova I hear.

I second Middlebury

In terms of your stated criteria, I’d also concur with Middlebury.

Jesuit schools in the Northeast commonly have preppy reputations without Greek systems. The OP knows about Georgetown, but others would include Holy Cross and Boston College (both mentioned above), Loyola-Maryland, Fordham, Fairfield, and Scranton.

St. Joseph’s is Jesuit and may be considered preppy, but has a Greek system. Villanova (mentioned above) is Catholic (but not Jesuit), and also has a Greek system.

Besides some fantasy layouts in certain East Coast-leaning clothing catalogues, what does this mean? The whole class went to day schools? They all know how to tack a boat?

Perhaps that is reason enough for some. It wouldn’t surprise me if there are applicants who love (for example) the “Vineyard Vines” look, and who want to attend a school where lots of students dress that way.

It wouldn’t be my first criterion for school selection, but it’s probably not the weirdest that has even been posted on CC either.

Haha if you want preppy just join greek life. That will float your boat. Then all you’ll see is Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide, and Ralph Lauren.

For OP it seems “preppy” is a stand-in for conservative.

^^well if OP means conservative, then most of the suggestions don’t fit the bill as they would range from liberal to moderate

Since your name is “HopefulHoya” then I’d suggest you also explore other Jesuit colleges – BC, Holy Cross, Fordham, Fairfield, Loyola MD etc. which have a number of similar traits. The Jesuit colleges encompass a pretty wide academic and geographic range. (For full disclosure my S went to Fordham and loved it.)

I’m not for an extreme side of politics for a college, but I’ll be fine with a not overbearing conservative or liberal campus! I’m not Jesuit- I just really like Georgetown! Thanks to everyone! @Houston1021 @Corbett @dragonmom3 @merc81 @wisteria100 @philbegas @happy1

We just want to have people who have the same mannerisms, styles, and likes, just like athletes, hippies, and etc.

It just means my above comment!
