I have 20/20 and was listed as Commission Qualified for AFA.

I don't know that they always try to fill up PQ slots first. Obviously it's a good thing if you are PPQ, but I'm not sure that it has that much of a negative bearing on your application. I got one of the first waves of LOAs and I'm Commission Qualified. Too short.

There are a lot of other things besides eyesight and height that will DQ you for pilot qualification...you'd be surprised.

I am 20/200 and i only recieved commision qualified.

What is the maximum height a pilot can be?

64"

I may be wrong. There's a sitting height requirement too.

64" doesn't seem right, that's only 5'4".

74" maybe? I'm just guessing here, anyone know for sure?

"Standing Height
Not less than fifty-eight inches to eighty inches maximum."

That is from Appendix A of the Academy Catalog

So 6'8", in other words. And I'm not sure that will DQ you for the heavies.

Whoops. My bad. "Maximum." Thought you said minimum.

Yes, thats why I'm happy I havent grown since freshmen year. :). I've also heard to fly fighters its better to be shorter, so anything above 6'2 is pushing it due to the blood flow and G-force. Comments?

The SpeedandAngles pilot training DVD referenced that short fat guys have a better ability to withstand G forces vs the tall thin guys - longer for the blood to get from the heart to the brain "way up there" it seems! :)

something like that. Long and lanky = bad for fighter pilots. Won't let it stop me from trying though!

I didn't know that...now I finally have a reason to be happy with 5'8." Sweet.

ya, the problem for is Im at 6'2 now. So I cant grow while im there either, lol. so im pushin my luck. :)

Oh yeah... I can't handle growing either. I won't fit in the cockpit. Ahem.

I coulda sworn I read somewhere that the minimum was 5'4"

Maybe those are Navy's standards?

Yes, the minimum standing height is 5'4" for planes and 5'2" for helicopters.

RedH, how close are you?

2 inches...:(
