Non-traditional students - life at UCSD

Any older students here attend(ing) undergrad at UCSD? How is the social life and how did you get on with the younger SD students in class?

Younger people, please feel free to weigh in with your perception of the older undergrad population.

Fyi: By older, I'm talking about 26+ years old. I'm 33 myself. Attending a CCC at my age can be a bit lonely at times. I'm hoping to find that there is some good peer support in my age range wherever I attend the next two years.

The only older nontrads that I’ve met were in my lab classes, and they were very busy people (mostly working part or full time + part or full time student, yikes). I know a few younger parents that are students that have social groups with older student parents (including faculty members). The general attitude towards these “older” people is very positive and kind of awestruck :stuck_out_tongue: I think having some hands on life experience under your belt wins you bonus points with anyone. I didn’t have the opportunity to interact with them much outside of the school setting, but your post makes me wish I reached out more haha.

@momosky Cheers, thanks for the feedback. Part of the reason I am hoping that there is a large group of non-trads is that I don’t have the family thing in common with most of them. It would be nice to find another person in my situation (i.e. re-entry student, single, focused on getting places but also embracing the collegiate experience and making the best of it). I am probably rather unique being my age and not having any attachments.
